The '''Treptowers''' is a complex of buildings with a distinctive high-rise in the [Alt-Treptow](/source/Alt-Treptow) district of [Berlin](/source/Berlin), [Germany](/source/Germany). Completed in 1998,<ref name="Gerhard"/> the complex is located on the river [Spree](/source/Spree_(river)).<ref>{{Cite web |title=Treptowers und Molecule Man |trans-title= |author= |work=berlin.de |date= |access-date=24 August 2023 |url= https://www.berlin.de/sehenswuerdigkeiten/3559829-3558930-treptowers-und-molecule-man.html |language=de}}</ref> The name "Treptowers" is a [portmanteau](/source/portmanteau) word from Treptow and the English word "tower".

== Genesis and architecture ==
The Treptowers complex consists of four buildings and is the result of an architectural competition held in 1993 and won by the architect Gerhard Spangenberg.<ref name="Gerhard">{{cite web |url=http://www.gerhardspangenberg.de/n/Buerodaten/Projekte/Treptower/treptower.html |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160304080707/http://www.gerhardspangenberg.de/n/Buerodaten/Projekte/Treptower/treptower.html |archive-date=4 March 2016 |publisher=Gerhard Spangenberg |title=Treptowers, Berlin}}</ref> The detailed planning and building was carried out by a partnership of architects Schweger and Reichel + Stauth from [Brunswick](/source/Braunschweig). Roland Ernst joined Urban GmbH & Co. as project developer and overseer of construction.{{citation needed|date=August 2023}} The final construction cost totalled 190 million [Deutsche Mark](/source/Deutsche_Mark)s.<ref name="Gerhard"/>

The buildings were constructed on the site of a former electrical appliance factory complex, which was built in 1926 by [AEG](/source/AEG_(German_company)).<ref>{{cite web |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160116134522/http://www.schweger-architects.com/de/architecture/treptowers-allianz |url=http://www.schweger-architects.com/de/architecture/treptowers-allianz |archive-date=16 January 2016 |title=Treptower Allianz Berlin |language=de |publisher=SAA Schweger Architekten}}</ref> After World War II, the plant was expropriated by [VEB](/source/Volkseigener_Betrieb) [Elektro-Apparate-Werke](/source/Elektro-Apparate-Werke) Berlin-Treptow,<ref>{{Cite web |title=Liste, Karte, Datenbank / Senatsverwaltung für Stadtentwicklung und Umwelt - Berlin |trans-title= |publisher=Denkmaldatenbank |date= |access-date=24 August 2023 |url= https://denkmaldatenbank.berlin.de/daobj.php?obj_dok_nr=09020333 |language=de}}</ref> a state-owned company in the [German Democratic Republic](/source/German_Democratic_Republic), and production continued until 1995.

The buildings have a square floor plan with a steel and glass facade, though portions of each building have stone facades to create a unified architectural look with neighboring buildings. At 125 meters, Treptowers is the tallest office building in Berlin and the same height as the [Park Inn](/source/Park_Inn_Berlin).

The 30 meter high sculpture ''[Molecule Men](/source/Molecule_Man_(sculpture))'' by Jonathan Borofsky was built in 1999 and sits in front of Treptowers in the River Spree. The sculpture's three figures represent the three Berlin districts of Treptow, Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain.<ref>{{Cite web |title=Molecule Men |author= |work=visitBerlin |date= |access-date=24 August 2023 |url= https://www.visitberlin.de/en/molecule-men}}</ref> Treptowers also houses a permanent exhibition of 500 works by contemporary artists.

The [Federal Criminal Police Office](/source/Federal_Criminal_Police_Office_(Germany)) has a branch inside the building.

In 2013, the complex was acquired by an investment company, supported by Japanese investors, for approximately {{Currency|70000000|EUR}}.<ref>{{Cite news|last=Ulrich|first=Paul|date=11 November 2013|title=Immobilien in Berlin gefragt: Investoren vermehrt aus Asien|language=de|trans-title=Real estate demand in Berlin: Increased investors from Asia|work=[Berliner Zeitung](/source/Berliner_Zeitung)|url=https://www.berliner-zeitung.de/mensch-metropole/immobilien-in-berlin-gefragt-investoren-vermehrt-aus-asien-li.59246|access-date=17 June 2021|issn=0947-174X|archive-date=25 January 2021|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210125055401/https://www.berliner-zeitung.de/mensch-metropole/immobilien-in-berlin-gefragt-investoren-vermehrt-aus-asien-li.59246|url-status=live}}</ref>
