**Travis Mitchell Fanset**[2] (born July 26, 1991)[1] is a Canadian curler from [Tillsonburg, Ontario](/source/Tillsonburg,_Ontario). A former [Canadian junior runner-up](/source/Canadian_Junior_Curling_Championships), he currently plays [third](/source/Third_(curling)) on Team [Pat Ferris](/source/Pat_Ferris).

## Career

Fanset and his rink of [Craig Van Ymeren](/source/Craig_Van_Ymeren), [Geoff Chambers](/source/Geoff_Chambers) and Christopher Jay won the 2008 [Ontario Junior Curling Championships](/source/Ontario_U-21_Curling_Championships), defeating Neil Sinclair in the provincial final.[3] The team represented Ontario at the [2008 Canadian Junior Curling Championships](/source/2008_Canadian_Junior_Curling_Championships). There, Fanset led his rink to a 9–3 round robin record. The team then defeated Saskatchewan (skipped by [Brennen Jones](/source/Brennen_Jones)) in a tiebreaker, and then Prince Edward Island ([Brett Gallant](/source/Brett_Gallant)) in the semifinal, before losing to Quebec's [William Dion](/source/William_Dion) in the final.[4]

In 2012, Fanset joined the [Mark Kean](/source/Mark_Kean) rink, playing [third](/source/Third_(curling)) on the team, which also included [Patrick Janssen](/source/Patrick_Janssen) and [Tim March](/source/Tim_March). The team found early success on the [World Curling Tour](/source/World_Curling_Tour), winning the [2012 KW Fall Classic](/source/2012_KW_Fall_Classic), Fanset's first career Tour title.[5] Over the course of the [2012–13 curling season](/source/2012%E2%80%9313_curling_season), the rink played in all four [Grand Slam](/source/Grand_Slam_(curling)) events. At the [2012 Masters](/source/2012_The_Masters_Grand_Slam_of_Curling), they were win less, going 0–5. However, in their second Grand Slam of the season, the [2012 Canadian Open](/source/2012_Canadian_Open_of_Curling), not only did they win a game, they went all the way to the semi-final where they lost to provincial rival [Glenn Howard](/source/Glenn_Howard). The team then went 1–4 at the [2013 National](/source/2013_The_National), and were again win less at the [2013 Players' Championship](/source/2013_Players'_Championship).

The next season, the Kean rink played in the [2013 Canadian Olympic Curling Pre-Trials](/source/2013_Canadian_Olympic_Curling_Pre-Trials), where they were eliminated after losing all three of their games. The team found success again at the [2013 Canadian Open](/source/2013_Canadian_Open_of_Curling), where they lost in the quarter-finals. Kean left the team mid-season, with Fanset taking over the reins as skip for [The National](/source/2014_The_National_(March)) Slam event. [Chad Allen](/source/Chad_Allen_(curler)) joined the team at third. The team went win less, losing all five games. After the event, the team picked up [John Epping](/source/John_Epping) to skip the rink, with Fanset moving back to third. The team found immediate success, making it to the quarter-finals of the season ending [2014 Players' Championship](/source/2014_Players'_Championship). Following the season, the team decided to remain together with Epping as skip.[6]

Early on in the [2014–15 curling season](/source/2014%E2%80%9315_curling_season), the Epping rink won the [Gord Carroll Curling Classic](/source/Gord_Carroll_Curling_Classic) Tour event. In that season's slams, the team made it to the semifinals of the [2014 Masters](/source/2014_The_Masters_Grand_Slam_of_Curling),[7] but missed the playoffs at [The National](/source/2014_The_National_(November)), the [Canadian Open](/source/2014_Canadian_Open_of_Curling) and the [2015 Elite 10](/source/2015_Elite_10). The team made it to the [2015 Ontario Tankard](/source/2015_Ontario_Tankard), the provincial men's championship, Fanset's first. The team made it to the provincial final, where they lost to a newly formed Mark Kean rink.[8] Fanset was replaced by [Mat Camm](/source/Mat_Camm) on the team before the season ending Players' Championship.[9]

After starting the [2015–16 curling season](/source/2015%E2%80%9316_curling_season) skipping a team that included [Wayne Tuck Jr.](/source/Wayne_Tuck_Jr.),[10] [Josh Barry](/source/Josh_Barry) and [Chad Allen](/source/Chad_Allen_(curler)), Fanset joined the [Scott Bailey](/source/Scott_Bailey_(curler)) rink by October as the team's [lead](/source/Lead_(curling)). The team played in the [2016 Ontario Tankard](/source/2016_Ontario_Tankard), where Fanset had to take over the reins as skip, with Bailey having to miss the event to attend a corporate gathering.[11][12] Fanset led the team of [Joe Frans](/source/Joe_Frans_(curler)), [Craig Van Ymeren](/source/Craig_Van_Ymeren) and spare Fraser Reid to a 5–5 record.

Fanset won his third career World Curling Tour event at the 2016 [Stroud Sleeman Cash Spiel](/source/Stroud_Sleeman_Cash_Spiel), playing third for [Chad Allen](/source/Chad_Allen_(curler)).[13] Fanset remained on the Bailey rink for the rest of the season though (with Fanset at third), and the team played in the [2017 Ontario Tankard](/source/2017_Ontario_Tankard). There, they made the playoffs where they lost the 3 vs. 4 game.

After a long hiatus from competitive curling, Fanset returned for the [2022-23 curling season](/source/2022-23_curling_season), skipping a team of [Aaron Squires](/source/Aaron_Squires), Van Ymeren and [Scott Brandon](/source/Scott_Brandon_(curler)). The team qualified for the [2023 Ontario Tankard](/source/2023_Ontario_Tankard).

Outside of regular men's curling, Fanset played in the [2014 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Trials](/source/2014_Canadian_Mixed_Doubles_Curling_Trials) with partner [Rachelle Vink](/source/Rachelle_Strybosch). The pair went 5–2 in the round robin, but were eliminated in the round of 12.
