**Trappes Valley** is a settlement about 10 km north-east of [Bathurst](/source/Bathurst%2C_Eastern_Cape). Named after Captain Charles Trappes who was Second in Command of the [72nd Regiment](/source/72nd_Regiment%2C_Duke_of_Albany's_Own_Highlanders) at [Grahamstown](/source/Grahamstown) in 1819. He was the founder of Bathurst and Provisional Magistrate in 1820.[1]
