A '''translation project''' is a [project](/source/project) that deals with the activity of [translating](/source/translating).

From a technical point of view, a translation project is closely related to the [project management](/source/project_management) of the translation process. But, from an [intercultural](/source/intercultural) point of view, a translation project is much more complex; this becomes evident, for instance, when considering [Bible translation](/source/Bible_translation) or other [literary translation](/source/literary_translation) projects.

Translation scholars such as [Antoine Berman](/source/Antoine_Berman) defend the views that every translator shall develop their own translation project, adhere to it and, later, develop [translation criticism](/source/translation_criticism). Every translator can only be faithful to their own translation project.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.academia.edu/258112|title=Berman's approach to translation criticism in a given example|access-date=21 April 2013}}</ref>

[PMP](/source/Project_Management_Institute) researcher Mandy Sha argue that for [survey translation](/source/Translation) where a team approach is recommended,<ref>{{Cite book |last1=Pan |first1=Yuling |url=https://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/mono/10.4324/9780429294914/sociolinguistics-survey-translation-yuling-pan-mandy-sha-hyunjoo-park |title=The Sociolinguistics of Survey Translation |last2=Sha |first2=Mandy |date=2019-07-09 |publisher=Routledge |isbn=978-0-429-29491-4 |location=London |doi=10.4324/9780429294914 |s2cid=198632812}}</ref> [project managers](/source/Project_manager) and researchers who do not speak the language of the translation still have a key role in improving the translation because they know the study objectives well and the intent behind the questions.<ref name=":5">{{Cite journal |last=Sha |first=Mandy |last2=Pan |first2=Yuling |date=2013-12-01 |title=Adapting and Improving Methods to Manage Cognitive Pretesting of Multilingual Survey Instruments |url=https://www.surveypractice.org/article/2888 |journal=Survey Practice |language=en |volume=6 |issue=4 |doi=10.29115/SP-2013-0024 |doi-access=free|url-access=subscription }}</ref><ref>{{Cite journal |last1=Sha |first1=Mandy |last2=Immerwahr |first2=Stephen |date=2018-02-19 |title=Survey Translation: Why and How Should Researchers and Managers be Engaged? |url=https://www.surveypractice.org/article/3248-survey-translation-why-and-how-should-researchers-and-managers-be-engaged |journal=Survey Practice |language=en |volume=11 |issue=2 |pages=1–10 |doi=10.29115/SP-2018-0016 |doi-access=free}}</ref>
