'''''Trans Am''''' is a studio [extended play (EP)](/source/extended_play) by American [new wave](/source/New_wave_music) band [the Network](/source/the_Network), a side project of the American [punk rock](/source/punk_rock) band [Green Day](/source/Green_Day), released on November 20, 2020. It was the first release from the Network in seventeen years.

==Background==
After releasing their debut album, ''[Money Money 2020](/source/Money_Money_2020)'', in 2003, and opening for some dates during a [Green Day](/source/Green_Day) tour in 2005, the band went on a fifteen-year hiatus. [Mike Dirnt](/source/Mike_Dirnt) subsequently confirmed in an interview with [''Rolling Stone''](/source/Rolling_Stone) in 2013 that Green Day were, in fact, behind the Network.<ref>{{cite web |last1=Fricke |first1=David |title=Q&A: Green Day’s Mike Dirnt on Billie Joe Armstrong’s Recovery |url=https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/qa-green-days-mike-dirnt-on-billie-joe-armstrongs-recovery-168010/ |website=Rolling Stone |access-date=22 April 2024}}</ref> In October 2020, the band suddenly became active again, posting to their social media profiles a music video for their song "The Prophecy".

==Release and promotion==
On November 2, 2020, [the Network](/source/the_Network) posted the music video for the song "Ivankkka Is a Nazi" to their Instagram.<ref>{{Cite Instagram |user=thenetwork |postid=CHGGxUnH0Lf |title=Ivankkka Is A Nazi |date=2 November 2020 |access-date=22 April 2024}}</ref><ref>{{cite web |last1=Skinner |first1=Tom |title=Listen to a new song from Green Day side project The Network |url=https://www.nme.com/news/music/listen-to-a-new-song-from-green-day-side-project-the-network-2807834 |website=NME |access-date=22 April 2024}}</ref> This came with rebuttals from the members of Green Day, with them repeatedly stating they were not affiliated with the Network. On November 20, the Network released the [music video](/source/music_video) for ''Trans Am'' onto their official [YouTube](/source/YouTube) channel. At the same time, the ''Trans Am'' EP was released onto streaming platforms. The release of the EP came with the announcement of their second album, [''Money Money 2020 Part II: We Told Ya So!''](/source/Money_Money_2020_Part_II%3A_We_Told_Ya_So!).<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.nme.com/news/music/the-network-trans-am-ep-green-day-secret-side-project-2821502|title=Listen to 'Trans Am', the new EP from Green Day's 'secret' side project The Network|website=NME}}</ref> Music videos for the other songs on the EP, "Flat Earth" and "Fentanyl", were released afterwards.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://loudwire.com/the-network-trans-am/|title=Mystery Green Day-Sounding Band The Network Share New Song ‘Trans Am’ + EP|website=Loudwire}}</ref>
