The tower was designed by the architecture firm [Skidmore, Owings and Merrill](/source/Skidmore%2C_Owings_and_Merrill), and has a polished and flamed [granite](/source/Granite) [façade](/source/Fa%C3%A7ade), with 1,200,000 sq ft (110,000 m2) of office space. It was originally built as the new headquarters of [Ling-Temco-Vought](/source/Ling-Temco-Vought), which had outgrown its previous headquarters at [1600 Pacific Tower](/source/1600_Pacific_Tower). [Trammell & Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art](/source/Trammell_%26_Margaret_Crow_Collection_of_Asian_Art), an arts venue showcasing artwork owned by the Crows, is at the building's base.
