A '''train meet''' is the situation in [railroading](/source/railroading) or [rail transit](/source/rail_transit) operations in which a train traveling in one direction "meets" another traveling in the opposite direction, either while traveling on parallel [double](/source/Double_track) or multiple [tracks](/source/railroad_track), or while stopping and waiting on a [railroad siding](/source/Siding_(rail)) for the other train to pass on a [single track](/source/Single_track_(rail)) [mainline](/source/Mainline_(railway)). Determining the time and location of where such trains meet is paramount in [railroad engineering](/source/railroad_engineering) particularly in single track sections to avoid [collisions](/source/Train_collision) or to allow faster trains to bypass slower service trains.

Determining when and where a train meet occurs is also a classic [mathematics](/source/mathematics) problem.<ref name="Debut">{{Cite web|url=http://www.mathscore.com/math/practice/Train%20Problems/|title=Train Problems - Sample Math Practice Problems|website=Mathscore.com|language=en|access-date=7 March 2017}}</ref>
