He gained popularity after signing to [Missy Elliott](/source/Missy_Elliott)'s [The Goldmind Inc.](/source/The_Goldmind_Inc.) as the first male artist under the label. In 2006, Carter co-wrote and helped produce [Nina Sky](/source/Nina_Sky)'s song, "Building a Vibe".
