# Torrente 3: el protector

***Torrente 3: el protector*** is a 2005 Spanish [black comedy](/source/Black_comedy) film directed, written, and starring [Santiago Segura](/source/Santiago_Segura) as the lead character, Spanish cop [José Luis Torrente](/source/Jos%C3%A9_Luis_Torrente). It is the third installment of the [*Torrente* film series](/source/Torrente_(franchise)), being a sequel to *[Torrente 2: misión en Marbella](/source/Torrente_2:_misi%C3%B3n_en_Marbella)*, and was successful at the box office.[3] It is a parody of the American film *[The Bodyguard](/source/The_Bodyguard_(1992_film))*, which was directed by [Mick Jackson](/source/Mick_Jackson_(director)) and starred [Kevin Costner](/source/Kevin_Costner) and [Whitney Houston](/source/Whitney_Houston).[4]

## Video Game

On October 5, 2005, a video game adaptation under the same name was released for the [PlayStation 2](/source/PlayStation_2) and [Windows](/source/Microsoft_Windows). It was developed by Virtual Toys and Published by [Virgin Play](/source/Virgin_Play), being the latter's first self-published title. The game was also released outside Spain as *Torrente 3: The Protector* with English voice acting.
