==Background==
Frontwoman [Dee Dee](/source/Kristin_Kontrol) began to write ''Too True'' while touring for ''[End of Daze](/source/End_of_Daze)'', and in November 2012, she began to record the album with Gottehrer at Pet Sounds at East West Studios in [Hollywood](/source/Hollywood%2C_Los_Angeles). However, Dee Dee soon realized her voice was damaged from touring, which halted recording. During this break, she rewrote lead single "Lost Boys & Girls Club" and slowly recorded the vocals herself back in New York City.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://wearedumdumgirls.com/too-true/ |title=TOO TRUE: CHASING POP INTO THE DARK: DUM DUM GIRLS |publisher=[Dum Dum Girls](/source/Dum_Dum_Girls) |date=2013-10-31 |accessdate=2014-01-30 |url-status=dead |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20140113034512/http://wearedumdumgirls.com/too-true/ |archivedate=2014-01-13 }}</ref>

The song "Are You Okay?" was originally written and intended for [Ronnie Spector](/source/Ronnie_Spector) but Gottehrer convinced Dee Dee to keep it for herself.<ref name="rollingstoneinterview">{{cite web |first=Marrisa |last=Muller |url=https://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/dum-dum-girls-break-away-from-the-bedroom-on-too-true-20140129 |title=Dum Dum Girs Break Away From Underground on "Too True: Music News: Rolling Stone |publisher=[Rolling Stone](/source/Rolling_Stone) |date=29 January 2014 |accessdate=30 January 2014}}</ref>

[CBS Interactive](/source/CBS_Interactive)|accessdate=January 28, 2014}}</ref> In his review published on ''[The A.V. Club](/source/The_A.V._Club)'', Ryan Kyle praised the album, saying that "''Too True'' finds Dee Dee enlisting a drum machine to give songs like 'Little Minx' and 'Evil Blooms' a much more rigid backbone than the band’s songs have had in the past".<ref name="club" /> ''[Paste](/source/Paste_(magazine))'' hailed the record, stating that "Dee Dee’s voice is what stands out. It’s achingly emotive in its minimal range".<ref name="paste">{{cite web |author=Lore, Mark |url=https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2014/01/dum-dum-girls-too-true.html |title=Too True |publisher=[Paste](/source/Paste_(magazine)) |date = January 28, 2014 |accessdate=January 28, 2014}}</ref> ''[Mojo](/source/Mojo_(magazine))'' qualified ''Too True'' as "a perfect pop balance of cliche and rawness, with mythic ambition and songs that make you a three-minute hero".<ref>{{cite journal |title=Too True review |journal = [Mojo](/source/Mojo_(magazine)) |date=February 2014 |page=95}}</ref> ''[Uncut](/source/Uncut_(magazine))'' wrote that it was "a bold album".<ref>{{cite journal |title=Too True review |journal = [Uncut](/source/Uncut_(magazine)) |date=February 2014 |page=73}}</ref> ''No Ripcord'' criticized the album's production, stating that the band "needs to play to its strengths, rather than a production style" and asking, "What's the point of writing great riffs if you can't properly listen to them?".<ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.noripcord.com/reviews/music/dum-dum-girls/too-true |title=Dum Dum Girls - Too True - Music Review |first=Joe |last=Marvilli |date=February 10, 2014 |accessdate=February 13, 2013}}</ref>
