==Biography==

Born in Barbados in 1962,<ref name="CAP" /> Reid made his [List A](/source/List_A_cricket) debut when the USA took part in the [2000–01 Red Stripe Bowl](/source/2000%E2%80%9301_Red_Stripe_Bowl), playing three of the team's four group matches in [Jamaica](/source/Jamaica). His debut against the [Jamaicans](/source/Jamaica_national_cricket_team)<ref name="LAM">[http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Players/21/21163/List_A_Matches.html List A matches played by Charles Reid] at CricketArchive</ref> was inauspicious as he went for 50 from his ten overs and was [lbw](/source/Leg_before_wicket) to [Laurie Williams](/source/Laurie_Williams_(cricketer)) for a duck.<ref>[http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Scorecards/70/70710.html Scorecard] of Jamaica v USA, 11 October 2000 at CricketArchive</ref>

He did not play in the match against [Canada](/source/Canada_national_cricket_team), but was back in the side against his native [Barbados](/source/Barbados_national_cricket_team),<ref name="LAM" /> taking his first senior wicket - that of [West Indies](/source/West_Indies_cricket_team) [Test](/source/Test_cricket) batsman [Adrian Griffith](/source/Adrian_Griffith_(cricketer)).<ref>[http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Scorecards/70/70736.html Scorecard] of Barbados v USA, 16 October 2000 at CricketArchive</ref> He was retained against [Trinidad & Tobago](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_national_cricket_team),<ref name="CAP" /> but failed to make any impression as the USA were bowled out for a paltry 62, which their opponents rushed past for the loss of one wicket in 31 balls.<ref>[http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Scorecards/70/70759.html Scorecard] of Trinidad & Tobago v USA, 17 October 2000 at CricketArchive</ref>

His next appearances were in early 2004, at the [ICC 6 Nations Challenge](/source/ICC_6_Nations_Challenge) tournament in [Sharjah](/source/Sharjah_(city)) and [Dubai](/source/Dubai)<ref name="LAM" /> which the United States eventually won on net [run rate](/source/run_rate).<ref>[http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Events/Tables/ICC_Six_Nations_Challenge_2003-04.html 2004 ICC 6 Nations Challenge Points Table] at CricketArchive</ref> In the first match, against [Namibia](/source/Namibia_national_cricket_team), he took 3-40 and scored 30 in a [five-wicket win](/source/the_result_in_cricket), as well as [running out](/source/run_out) the Namibian captain, [Deon Kotze](/source/Deon_Kotze).<ref>[http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Scorecards/79/79197.html Scorecard] of Namibia v USA, 29 February 2004 at CricketArchive</ref> Later in the competition he scored 55 in a losing cause against [the Netherlands](/source/Netherlands_national_cricket_team).<ref>[http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Scorecards/79/79234.html Scorecard] of Netherlands v USA, 4 March 2004 at CricketArchive</ref>

Shortly after the end of the Six Nations competition, Reid made his [first-class](/source/first-class_cricket) debut at the 2004 [ICC Intercontinental Cup](/source/ICC_Intercontinental_Cup) against Canada in [Fort Lauderdale](/source/Fort_Lauderdale).<ref>[http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Players/21/21163/First-Class_Matches.html First-class matches played by Tony Reid] at CricketArchive</ref> He scored only 4 and 2 as the USA lost by 104 runs, but took 2–10 in six tight overs in the Canadian second innings.<ref>[http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Scorecards/79/79603.html Scorecard] of USA v Canada, 28 May 2004 at CricketArchive</ref> Five games followed at the [Americas Championship](/source/ICC_Americas_Championship), a tournament he previously played in 2000,<ref>[http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Players/21/21163/Other_matches.html Other matches played by Tony Reid] at CricketArchive</ref> before another Intercontinental Cup appearance, this time in a winning cause against [Bermuda](/source/Bermuda_national_cricket_team).<ref>[http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Scorecards/79/79882.html Scorecard] of Bermuda v USA, 13 July 2004] at CricketArchive</ref>

In September 2004, the USA played the first ODIs in their history, in the [2004 ICC Champions Trophy](/source/2004_ICC_Champions_Trophy) in [England](/source/England).<ref>[http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Records/UnitedStatesofAmerica/Odis/Odi_List.html List of USA ODIs] at CricketArchive</ref> Reid had been caught up in [Hurricane Frances](/source/Hurricane_Frances), and at one stage had looked unlikely to make it across the [Atlantic](/source/Atlantic_Ocean),<ref>[http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/usa/content/story/143043.html Reid left stranded by Hurricane Frances] by Wisden Cricinfo Staff, 6 September 2004 at Cricinfo</ref> but he was rewarded for his perseverance when, opening the bowling in the first game against [New Zealand](/source/New_Zealand_national_cricket_team), he had captain [Stephen Fleming](/source/Stephen_Fleming) caught at cover.<ref name="FirstODI" />

This was the first wicket in ODI history for the United States,<ref name="FirstODI" /> although they were brought back down to earth by a thumping 210-run defeat, followed by a nine-wicket thrashing by the [Australians](/source/Australia_national_cricket_team).<ref>[http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Scorecards/80/80655.html Scorecard] of Australia v USA, 13 September 2004 at CricketArchive</ref>

Reid last played for the US in the [2005 ICC Trophy](/source/2005_ICC_Trophy)<ref name="Teams" /> in [Ireland](/source/Ireland),<ref name="LAM" /> but despite two half centuries his bowling was ineffective, and he took just one wicket from 42 overs<ref name="CAP" /> in a disastrous competition for the Americans which saw them lose all four of their group games (one more was abandoned), thus denying the USA a place at the [2007 World Cup](/source/2007_Cricket_World_Cup).<ref>[http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Events/Tables/ICC_Trophy_2005.html 2005 ICC Trophy Points Table] at CricketArchive</ref> He hit 54 against [Denmark](/source/Denmark_national_cricket_team),<ref>[http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Scorecards/82/82832.html Scorecard] of Denmark v USA, 2 July 2005 at CricketArchive</ref> but his best of 61 [not out](/source/not_out)<ref name="CAP" /> came in a ninth-place play-off match which saw the United States beaten by [Oman](/source/Oman_national_cricket_team).<ref>[http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Scorecards/82/82974.html Scorecard] of Oman v USA, 11 July 2005 at CricketArchive</ref>
