**Tomoka Miyazaki** (宮崎 友花, *Miyazaki Tomoka*; born 17 August 2006) is a Japanese [badminton](/source/Badminton) player.[2][3] She was the world junior champion winning the girls' singles title in [2022](/source/2022_BWF_World_Junior_Championships_%E2%80%93_Girls'_singles).[4]

## Career

### 2022

In 2022, Miyazaki primarily competed on the international junior circuit. In June, she earned the runner-up position at the Malaysia Junior International.[5] In October, as a first-year student at [Yanai Shoko High School](https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%B1%B1%E5%8F%A3%E7%9C%8C%E7%AB%8B%E6%9F%B3%E4%BA%95%E5%95%86%E5%B7%A5%E9%AB%98%E7%AD%89%E5%AD%A6%E6%A0%A1), she won the girls' singles title at the [World Junior Championships](/source/BWF_World_Junior_Championships) in [Santander, Spain](/source/Santander%2C_Spain). This victory marked her as the fourth Japanese player to claim the title, following [Nozomi Okuhara](/source/Nozomi_Okuhara) (2012), [Akane Yamaguchi](/source/Akane_Yamaguchi) (2013, 2014), and [Riko Gunji](/source/Riko_Gunji) (2019).[4] She also contributed to Japan's bronze medal in the [mixed team event](/source/2022_BWF_World_Junior_Championships_%E2%80%93_Teams_event) at the same championships.[6] Miyazaki finished the year by winning her first senior-level tournament, capturing the women's singles title at the [Slovenia Future Series](/source/Slovenia_Open_(badminton)#Slovenia_Future_Series) in November.[7]

### 2023

In 2023, Miyazaki joined the Japanese national B team and competed in both international junior and senior tournaments. In July, she contributed to Japan's first gold medal at the [Asian Junior Championships](/source/2023_Badminton_Asia_Junior_Championships_%E2%80%93_Teams_event) since 2012.[8] By the end of the year, she achieved the world #1 position in the [BWF World Junior Ranking](/source/BWF_World_Junior_Ranking).

On the International Challenge circuit, Miyazaki won the singles title at the [Saipan International](/source/Saipan_International_(badminton)) in June,[9] following a runner-up finish at the [Northern Marianas Open](/source/Northern_Marianas_Open) the previous week.[10] In August, she secured the singles title at the [Guatemala Future Series](/source/Guatemala_International#Guatemala_Future_Series) and was runner-up in the women's doubles with [Maya Taguchi](/source/Maya_Taguchi).[11]

Miyazaki won her first [BWF World Tour](/source/BWF_World_Tour) title at the [Indonesia Masters II](/source/2023_Indonesia_Masters_Super_100_II) (Super 100) in October and reached her first Super 300 final at the [Korea Masters](/source/2023_Korea_Masters) in November, where she finished as runner-up.[12][13] She also advanced to the second round of the [Japan Masters](/source/2023_Japan_Masters) (Super 500) and the [Syed Modi International](/source/2023_Syed_Modi_International) (Super 300). Miyazaki rose from a world ranking of No. 431 at the start of 2023 to a career-high No. 39 by the end of the year.

### 2024

In 2024, Miyazaki joined the Japanese A National Team. In March, she won her first Super 300 title at the [Orléans Masters](/source/2024_Orl%C3%A9ans_Masters), defeating compatriot [Hina Akechi](/source/Hina_Akechi) in the final.[14] The following week, she reached the [Swiss Open](/source/2024_Swiss_Open_(badminton)) semi-finals, defeating former world champion [P. V. Sindhu](/source/P._V._Sindhu) in the second round before losing to Olympic champion [Carolina Marín](/source/Carolina_Mar%C3%ADn).[15][16] From April to May, she contributed to Japan’s bronze medal at [Uber Cup](/source/2024_Thomas_%26_Uber_Cup) in Chengdu, China.[17]

In September, Miyazaki reached her first Super 1000 final at the [China Open](/source/2024_China_Open_(badminton)), finishing as runner-up to [Wang Zhiyi](/source/Wang_Zhiyi).[18] She also consistently reached the semi-finals at five other tournaments: the [Hong Kong Open](/source/2024_Hong_Kong_Open_(badminton)) (Super 500), [Macau Open](/source/2024_Macau_Open_(badminton)) (Super 300), [Arctic Open](/source/2024_Arctic_Open) (Super 500), [Korea Masters](/source/2024_Korea_Masters) (Super 300), and the [China Masters](/source/2024_China_Masters) (Super 750).

Domestically, Miyazaki won the team and singles titles at the [Inter-High School Championships](https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%85%A8%E5%9B%BD%E9%AB%98%E7%AD%89%E5%AD%A6%E6%A0%A1%E7%B7%8F%E5%90%88%E4%BD%93%E8%82%B2%E5%A4%A7%E4%BC%9A%E3%83%90%E3%83%89%E3%83%9F%E3%83%B3%E3%83%88%E3%83%B3%E7%AB%B6%E6%8A%80%E5%A4%A7%E4%BC%9A) in August.[19] In December, she claimed the women's singles title at the [All Japan Badminton Championships](/source/All_Japan_Badminton_Championships), defeating [Natsuki Nidaira](/source/Natsuki_Nidaira) in the final, becoming the fourth high school student to win the national championship.[20][21] She concluded the year with a career-high world ranking of No. 12.

### 2025

In 2025, Tomoka Miyazaki joined the Japanese national team and turned professional, joining [ACT Saikyo](https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E8%A5%BF%E4%BA%AC%E9%8A%80%E8%A1%8C) in April upon high school graduation.[22][23] She reached a career-high world ranking of No. 6 on 10 June. On the BWF World Tour, she won her first title of the year at the [Taipei Open](/source/2025_Taipei_Open#Finals_2) (Super 300) in May and advanced to the semi-finals of the [India Open](/source/2025_India_Open) (Super 750) and the [Thailand Open](/source/2025_Thailand_Open_(badminton)) (Super 500).[24][25] At the Thailand Open, she defeated [Ratchanok Intanon](/source/Ratchanok_Intanon) in the quarter-finals before being eliminated by [Chen Yufei](/source/Chen_Yufei).[26][27] She also reached the [All England Open](/source/2025_All_England_Open) (Super 1000) quarter-finals, losing to compatriot Akane Yamaguchi.[28] In team competitions, Miyazaki contributed to Japan's bronze medals at the [Asia Mixed Team Championships](/source/2025_Badminton_Asia_Mixed_Team_Championships) in February and the [Sudirman Cup](/source/2025_Sudirman_Cup) in April–May.[29][30]

### 2026

Miyazaki opened the season with a second-round exit at the [Malaysia Open](/source/2026_Malaysia_Open_(badminton)).[31] In May, Miyazaki represented Japan at the [Uber Cup](/source/2026_Thomas_%26_Uber_Cup) in [Horsens](/source/Horsens), where she contributed to the team securing a bronze medal.[32] Later that month, she reached the quarterfinals of the [Thailand Open](/source/2026_Thailand_Open_(badminton)), where she lost to [Chen Yufei](/source/Chen_Yufei).[33]

## Awards

In 2024, Miyazaki received a 1.2 million yen grant from the [Kozuki Foundation](https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E4%B8%8A%E6%9C%88%E8%B2%A1%E5%9B%A3)'s Athlete Support Program, which aids promising young high school and university athletes.[34] The foundation presented the award at ceremony in [Tokyo](/source/Tokyo) on 18 December.[35]

In 2025, Miyazaki was honored with the 2024 [Yonex](/source/Yonex) Sports Foundation [Minoru Yoneyama](/source/Minoru_Yoneyama) Award for her contributions to junior sports promotion. She shared the award with fellow badminton player [Aya Tamaki](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Aya_Tamaki&action=edit&redlink=1), and it was presented at a ceremony in Tokyo on 17 June 2025.[36][37]
