Its surface area is {{convert|2.5|ha|abbr=on}}.

It is the [source](/source/Source_(river_or_stream)) of the [Anterior Rhine](/source/Anterior_Rhine) and is deemed to be the official source of the [Rhine](/source/Rhine) (the source of the [Posterior Rhine](/source/Posterior_Rhine) is above [Hinterrhein, Switzerland](/source/Hinterrhein%2C_Switzerland), at {{coord|46.499|N|9.065|E|region:CH-GR_type:river|name=Source of Hinterrhein}}).
