'''Thomas Webley''' (born 2 March 1983) is an English [cricket](/source/cricket)er. Webley is a left-handed [batsman](/source/batsman_(cricket)) who bowls [slow left-arm orthodox](/source/slow_left-arm_orthodox).

Born in [Bristol](/source/Bristol) before moving to the village of [Corfe Mullen](/source/Corfe_Mullen) in Dorset, Webley had been educated at [King's College](/source/King's_College%2C_Taunton), a [boarding school](/source/boarding_school) in [Taunton, Somerset](/source/Taunton%2C_Somerset).<ref name = "WFF">[http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/story/129213.html Webley to face the fastest in the world !!!]</ref> In 1999 he first appeared for the [Somerset Second XI](/source/Somerset_County_Cricket_Club) in the [Second Eleven Championship](/source/Second_Eleven_Championship). In 2001, Webley was selected to represent the [Somerset Cricket Board](/source/Somerset_Cricket_Board) in the [2001 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy](/source/2001_Cheltenham_%26_Gloucester_Trophy) and as a result he made his debut in [List A cricket](/source/List_A_cricket) against [Wales Minor Counties](/source/Wales_Minor_Counties_Cricket_Club), following this up the next season with his second List A appearance, which was to be the last of his career, against [Cornwall](/source/Cornwall_County_Cricket_Club) in the 1st round of the [2003 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy](/source/2003_Cheltenham_%26_Gloucester_Trophy) which was held in 2002.

Taking up education at [Anglia University](/source/Anglia_Ruskin_University), given its proximity to [Cambridge](/source/Cambridge) resulted in Webley appearing for [Cambridge University Centre of Cricketing Excellence](/source/List_of_Cambridge_UCCE_%26_MCCU_players), for which he made his debut in [first-class cricket](/source/first-class_cricket) in 2003 against [Essex](/source/Essex_County_Cricket_Club). Two matches later he scored a maiden [century](/source/century_(cricket)) against [Northamptonshire](/source/Northamptonshire_County_Cricket_Club), making a cautious 104 before being dismissed by [Monty Panesar](/source/Monty_Panesar).<ref name = "WFF"/><ref>[https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Scorecards/76/76953.html Cambridge University v Northamptonshire (2003)]</ref> Following encouraging performances with the Cambridge University team and in the Somerset Second XI, which received praise from then Second XI coach [Mark Garaway](/source/Mark_Garaway).<ref name = "WFF"/> As a result, he made his debut for [first XI](/source/Somerset_County_Cricket_Club) in that seasons [County Championship](/source/County_Championship) against [Durham](/source/Durham_County_Cricket_Club) at the [Riverside Ground](/source/Riverside_Ground). In a fairly unsuccessful debut, he was dismissed for 6 in Somerset's first-innings by [Vince Wells](/source/Vince_Wells) and for a [duck](/source/duck_(cricket)) in their second by [Shoaib Akhtar](/source/Shoaib_Akhtar).

Webley played five further first-class matches for Somerset in 2003, the last of which came against [Derbyshire](/source/Derbyshire_County_Cricket_Club). He did not though make any appearances in List A or [Twenty20](/source/Twenty20) format for the county. The following season he continued to represent Cambridge University and did so until the [2005 season](/source/2005_English_cricket_season) when he played his final first-class match against [Middlesex](/source/Middlesex_County_Cricket_Club).<ref>[https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Players/35/35026/First-Class_Matches.html First-Class Matches played by Tom Webley]</ref> A fairly reliable batsman at first-class level, Webley scored 833 runs in 15 first-class matches, [averaging](/source/batting_average_(cricket)) 34.70, making five [half centuries](/source/half_century) and just the single century. With the ball in hand, he took 6 wickets at a [bowling average](/source/bowling_average) of 59.50, with best figures of 2/57.

His association with Somerset ended in 2004 and in 2005 he represented the [Leicestershire Second XI](/source/Leicestershire_County_Cricket_Club). Webley proceeded to play [Minor counties](/source/Minor_counties_of_English_and_Welsh_cricket) cricket for [Suffolk](/source/Suffolk_County_Cricket_Club) in 2005,<ref name = "TWPF">[https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Players/35/35026/all_teams.html Teams Tom Webley played for]</ref> before facilitating a move back south where he represented [Dorset](/source/Dorset_County_Cricket_Club) in Minor counties cricket from 2006 to 2007.<ref name = "TWPF"/>

During the summer of 2007, he took up the role as a Teacher at [Kimbolton School](/source/Kimbolton_School), and is Master in Charge of Cricket. In 2013, Tom made the move to Merchant Taylors' School and was Director of Cricket there.
