Turning professional right out of high school, Manastersky played 6 seasons and 68 regular season games for his hometown [Montreal Alouettes](/source/Montreal_Alouettes). The high point of his football career was being part of the Alouettes' first [Grey Cup](/source/Grey_Cup) in 1949. He was a two-sport professional athlete. He had played hockey for the [Montreal Royals](/source/Montreal_Royals), [Cincinnati Mohawks](/source/Cincinnati_Mohawks), and [Victoria Cougars](/source/Victoria_Cougars) in the minor leagues, but in the [1950–51 NHL season](/source/1950%E2%80%9351_NHL_season) he got called up. A big [defenceman](/source/defenceman_(ice_hockey)), he played six games for the [Montreal Canadiens](/source/Montreal_Canadiens), recording 11 penalty minutes.
