{{Short description|First settlers of the Minicoy island of Lakshadweep}}
{{Use dmy dates|date=July 2019}}
'''Tivaru''' (ތީވަރު ) or '''Dweepukar''' are said to be the first settlers of the [Minicoy](/source/Minicoy) island of [Lakshadweep](/source/Lakshadweep) off the Indian mainland.

==History==
The origin of the Tivaru is unknown. Clarence Malony suggests that they could be Dravidians from southern India. Local oral tradition says that when [Dhivehis](/source/Dhivehis) came to these islands, the Tivaru who had really already settled in these islands migrated to [Sri Lanka](/source/Sri_Lanka), except for those who remained on [Giraavaru](/source/Giraavaru_(Kaafu_Atoll)).<ref>{{cite web | title= The Social Structure of Maliku (Minicoy) | author= | url= http://www.maldivesroyalfamily.com/minicoy_kattner.shtml | publisher= Maldivesroyalfamily.com | accessdate= 2009-07-14 | archive-date= 20 September 2013 | archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20130920163702/http://maldivesroyalfamily.com/minicoy_kattner.shtml | url-status= dead }}</ref>
