**Timothy Clare Headington** (born 1950) is an American [billionaire](/source/Billionaire), the CEO and owner of Headington Oil, a film producer, and real estate developer.[1][2][3]

## Early life

Timothy Clare Headington is the son of a geologist father, Clare W. Headington, and Catherine Meyer Headington.[4][5][6] He has a brother, Gregory Headington, and a sister, Jeanette Kern.[5][6][7]

Headington attended the [University of Oklahoma](/source/University_of_Oklahoma) on a tennis scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history.[1] He received graduate degrees in theology and psychology from [Fuller Theological Seminary](/source/Fuller_Theological_Seminary) in Pasadena, California,[1] and completed his psychology residency at LA County Hospital.[8]

In 2011, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Oklahoma, his alma mater.[8]

## Career

**Oil Industry**

Headington founded Headington Oil in 1978, in [Oklahoma City](/source/Oklahoma_City).[9] In 1984, he moved his company to Dallas.

Headington is currently president and sole shareholder of Headington Resources, Inc., a Dallas-headquartered company. The company concentrates primarily on oil and natural gas, real estate/hotel development, film production, private equity, and entertainment. Headington is an active philanthropist, personally and through various family foundations.[8]

In 2008, Headington sold acreage in North Dakota's Bakken oil play to XTO Energy for $1.85 billion.[10]

**Entertainment**

Headington was invested in [GK Films](/source/GK_Films) with British [Academy Award](/source/Academy_Award)-winning producer [Graham King](/source/Graham_King) from 2007 until 2012.[11][12] He formed [Tango Entertainment](/source/Tango_Entertainment) alongside Lia Buman in 2017 and [Ley Line Entertainment](/source/Ley_Line_Entertainment) alongside Theresa Steele Page in 2018.[13][14]

As a film producer/executive producer, Headington has worked on numerous projects including *[Hugo](/source/Hugo_(film))* (co-producer) and *[World War Z](/source/World_War_Z_(film))* (EP credit).[15]

Headington produced [Angelina Jolie](/source/Angelina_Jolie)'s feature directorial debut, *[In the Land of Blood and Honey](/source/In_the_Land_of_Blood_and_Honey)*.[16] The movie won the Stanley Kramer for “(an) achievement or contribution (that) illuminates provocative social issues in an accessible and elevating fashion.”[17] He was an executive producer on [Gore Verbinski](/source/Gore_Verbinski)'s animated film *[Rango](/source/Rango_(2011_film))*.[15]

Other productions include *[The Young Victoria](/source/The_Young_Victoria)*,[18] *[The Tourist](/source/The_Tourist_(2010_film))*,[16] *[Edge of Darkness](/source/Edge_of_Darkness_(2010_film))*,[18] *[The Rum Diary](/source/The_Rum_Diary_(film))*,[19] and the TV miniseries *[Camelot](/source/Camelot_(TV_series))*.[12]

In 2013, Headington partnered with Grammy Award winning music producer [Max Martin](/source/Max_Martin) to produce the musical "&Juliet." The play premiered in London at the [Shaftesbury theater](/source/Shaftesbury_Theatre) in November 2019. It received nine Olivier Award nominations in 2020, winning three.[20]

In 2021, it was announced that Headington and his production company [Ley Line Entertainment](/source/Ley_Line_Entertainment) would be producing the period drama film *[On Swift Horses](/source/On_Swift_Horses)*.[21] The film premiered at the [2024 Toronto International Film Festival](/source/2024_Toronto_International_Film_Festival), followed by a theatrical release in the US in April 2025, and received generally positive reviews:

See [templates for discussion](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2026_June_18#Rotten_Tomatoes_and_Metacritic_film_prose) to help reach a consensus. ›

[Metacritic](/source/Metacritic), which uses a [weighted average](/source/Weighted_arithmetic_mean), assigned the film a score of 65 out of 100, based on 21 critics, indicating "generally favorable" reviews. However, the marketing of the film was criticised by *[Variety](/source/Variety_(magazine))* and the *[Washington Blade](/source/Washington_Blade)* for downplaying the movie’s focus on LGBTQ characters and relationships, and for the fact that some promotional materials did not mention that these relationships were in the film at all: *Variety* was critical of the marketing for not mentioning the fact that the film was “a gay love story” and described the film’s official synopses as “deliberately deceptive”, while the *Washington Blade* noted that the film’s promotional materials “avoid directly referencing the sexuality of its two main characters” and described this marketing tactic as “not just like a miscalculation, but a slap in the face.” [22][23]

**Real Estate**

Heading developed [The Joule](/source/The_Joule_Hotel), formerly the Dallas National Bank building, in 2008.[24]
