**Timothé Sembéry Mumenthaler** [OLY](/source/OLY) (born 12 December 2002) is a Swiss sprinter. He won the [2024 European Championships](/source/2024_European_Athletics_Championships_%E2%80%93_Men's_200_metres) in [Rome](/source/Rome) over [200 metres](/source/200_metres).[2]

## Biography

He is a member of Stade Genève.[3] In February 2018, he won the [60 metres](/source/60_metres) and [200 metres](/source/200_metres) at the Swiss Youth Indoor Championships in [St. Gallen](/source/St._Gallen).[4] He competed at the [2018 Summer Youth Olympics](/source/2018_Summer_Youth_Olympics) in [Buenos Aires](/source/Buenos_Aires).[5] He recorded a time for the [100 metres](/source/100_metres) of 10.61 seconds aged 16 years-old. However, his progress was later slowed by injury.[6]

In 2022, he was runner up in the [Swiss Athletics Championships](/source/Swiss_Athletics_Championships) in the 100 metres.[7] He finished fifth in the 200 metres at the [2023 European Athletics Team Championships First Division](/source/2023_European_Athletics_Team_Championships_First_Division) in [Silesia](/source/Silesia), Poland in June 2023.[8] He was a bronze medalist in the 200 m at the [2023 European Athletics U23 Championships](/source/2023_European_Athletics_U23_Championships) in [Espoo](/source/Espoo).[9]

He ran as part of the Swiss 4 × 100 m relay team at the 2024 [World Relays Championships](/source/2024_World_Athletics_Relays_%E2%80%93_Men's_4_%C3%97_100_metres_relay) in [Nassau, Bahamas](/source/Nassau%2C_Bahamas).[10][11] He won the 200 metres gold medal at the [European Athletics Championships](/source/2024_European_Athletics_Championships_%E2%80%93_Men's_200_metres) in [Rome](/source/Rome), Italy, running 20.28 seconds.[12][13] He reported muscular problems after the race in Rome, which affected his performance as he competed in the 200 m at the [2024 Olympics Games](/source/Athletics_at_the_2024_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Men's_200_metres). He had a best time of 20.63 seconds in Paris, but did not progress to the semi-finals.[14][15] He recovered to compete at the [2024 Athletissima](/source/2024_Athletissima) in [Lausanne](/source/Lausanne), part of the [2024 Diamond League](/source/2024_Diamond_League), later in August 2024, placing seventh in the 200 metres race.[16]

He competed at the [2025 World Athletics Relays](/source/2025_World_Athletics_Relays) in China in the [Men's 4 × 100 metres relay](/source/2025_World_Athletics_Relays_%E2%80%93_Men's_4_%C3%97_100_metres_relay) in May 2025.[17] He ran a time of 20.27 seconds to set a new Swiss national record for the 200 metres at the [2025 Bislett Games](/source/2025_Bislett_Games), part of the [2025 Diamond League](/source/2025_Diamond_League), on 12 June 2025.[18]

In September 2025, he was a semi-finalist in the 200 metres at the [2025 World Championships](/source/2025_World_Athletics_Championships_%E2%80%93_Men's_200_metres) in [Tokyo](/source/Tokyo), Japan.[19][20]

He won the Swiss Indoor Championships over 60 metres on 1 March 2026, running 6.62 seconds in the final.[21]

## Personal life

Mumenthaler was born to a Swiss father and Senegalese mother.[22] He grew up in [Geneva, Switzerland](/source/Geneva%2C_Switzerland). In 2023, he began pursuing a [BSc](/source/Bachelor_of_Science) in microengineering at [Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL)](/source/EPFL), which he is completing on a part-time basis in parallel with his athletic career.[1][23]
