**Timmy Allen** (born January 9, 2000) is an American professional [basketball](/source/Basketball) player for [PAOK Thessaloniki](/source/PAOK_BC) of the [Greek Basketball League](/source/Greek_Basketball_League). He played [college basketball](/source/College_basketball) for the [Utah Utes](/source/Utah_Utes_men's_basketball) and the [Texas Longhorns](/source/Texas_Longhorns_men's_basketball).

## High school career

Allen grew up playing [baseball](/source/Baseball), [football](/source/American_football) and basketball.[1] He played his first two years of [varsity](/source/Varsity_team) basketball for [Desert Ridge High School](/source/Desert_Ridge_High_School) in [Mesa, Arizona](/source/Mesa%2C_Arizona). As a sophomore, he averaged 21.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.[2] For his junior season, Allen transferred to [Red Mountain High School](/source/Red_Mountain_High_School) in Mesa, because the school was closer to where his mother was receiving [cancer](/source/Cancer) treatment. He sat out his first nine games due to [Arizona Interscholastic Association](/source/Arizona_Interscholastic_Association) transfer rules.[3][4] As a senior, Allen averaged 29.8 points, 11.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.[5] He played [Amateur Athletic Union](/source/Amateur_Athletic_Union) basketball for the Compton Magic.[6]

### Recruiting

Allen was a consensus four-star [recruit](/source/College_recruiting), with [247Sports](/source/247Sports.com) considering him the top player from Arizona in the 2018 class.[7] On September 19, 2017, he committed to play [college basketball](/source/College_basketball) for [Utah](/source/Utah_Utes_men's_basketball) over offers from [Iowa State](/source/Iowa_State_Cyclones_men's_basketball), [Texas Tech](/source/Texas_Tech_Red_Raiders_basketball), [San Diego State](/source/San_Diego_State_Aztecs_men's_basketball) and [UCLA](/source/UCLA_Bruins_men's_basketball), among others.[6][8]

## College career

In late January 2019, during his freshman season, Allen registered two [double-doubles](/source/Double-double) in a span of six days, leading Utah to wins over [Colorado](/source/Colorado_Buffaloes_men's_basketball) and [California](/source/California_Golden_Bears_men's_basketball).[9] On February 2, he scored a season-high 24 points in an 81–72 loss to [Oregon State](/source/Oregon_State_Beavers_men's_basketball).[10] As a freshman, Allen averaged 12.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, earning [Pac-12](/source/Pac-12_Conference) All-Freshman Team honors.[6] By the time he was a sophomore, he lost 25 lbs (11 kg) and was placed in a leading role, with many key players graduating or transferring.[11] On December 4, 2019, Allen scored a career-high 27 points along with five rebounds and five assists in a 102–95 overtime victory over [BYU](/source/BYU_Cougars_men's_basketball).[12] On December 18, he scored 25 points to lead Utah to a 69–66 upset win over sixth-ranked [Kentucky](/source/Kentucky_Wildcats_men's_basketball).[13] Allen averaged 17.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, three assists and 1.2 steals per game as a sophomore and was named to the Second Team [All-Pac-12](/source/List_of_All-Pac-12_Conference_men's_basketball_teams). He was the only [Power Five](/source/Power_Five_conferences) player that season to average at least 17 points, seven rebounds, 2.5 assists and one steal per game.[14] Following the season, he declared for the [2020 NBA draft](/source/2020_NBA_draft),[15] before returning to college.[16] As a junior, Allen averaged 17.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game, earning First Team All-Pac-12 honors.[17]

After a coaching change at Utah, Allen transferred to [Texas](/source/Texas_Longhorns_men's_basketball).[18] He was named to the Second-team All-[Big 12](/source/Big_12_Conference) as well as the All-Newcomer Team.[19] Allen averaged 12.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game. On February 11, 2023, Allen scored his 2,000th point in a win against [West Virginia](/source/West_Virginia_Mountaineers_men's_basketball).[20]

## Professional career

### Memphis Hustle / Grizzlies (2023–2024)

After going undrafted in the [2023 NBA draft](/source/2023_NBA_draft), Allen joined the [Memphis Grizzlies](/source/Memphis_Grizzlies) for the [2023 NBA Summer League](/source/2023_NBA_Summer_League) and on October 16, 2023, he signed with them.[21] However, he was waived two days later[22] and on October 30, he joined the [Memphis Hustle](/source/Memphis_Hustle)[23] where he appeared in 46 matches, while averaging 9.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.0 steals in 26.4 minutes.[24]

On April 6, 2024, Allen signed a 10-day contract with the [Memphis Grizzlies](/source/Memphis_Grizzlies).[24]

### Filou Oostende (2024–2025)

On August 8, 2024, Allen signed with [Filou Oostende](/source/BC_Oostende) of the [BNXT League](/source/BNXT_League).[25] In his first season, Allen averaged 20.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 27.9 minutes per game. At the end of the regular season, Allen won the [BNXT MVP award](/source/BNXT_League_Most_Valuable_Player). Allen and his team won the Belgium finals during the playoffs, where Allen was named the [BNXT League Finals MVP](/source/BNXT_League_Finals_MVP)

### Trapani Shark (2025)

On June 29, 2025, Allen signed with [Trapani Shark](/source/Trapani_Shark) of the Italian [Lega Basket Serie A](/source/Lega_Basket_Serie_A) (LBA).[26]

## Personal life

Allen's mother, Elise, died from [breast cancer](/source/Breast_cancer) during his junior season in high school, about seven years after being first diagnosed with the disease.[3][30] His older brother, [Teddy](/source/Teddy_Allen_(basketball)), played college basketball for [West Virginia](/source/West_Virginia_Mountaineers_men's_basketball), [Nebraska](/source/Nebraska_Cornhuskers_men's_basketball) and [New Mexico State](/source/New_Mexico_State_Aggies_men's_basketball).[1][31]
