He is best known as a founding member of the [indie rock](/source/indie_rock) band [Rheostatics](/source/Rheostatics),<ref name="jam.canoe.ca"/> in which he shared vocal<ref name=CE/> duties with bandmates [Dave Bidini](/source/Dave_Bidini) and [Martin Tielli](/source/Martin_Tielli).  Vesely wrote much of the band's conventionally [pop](/source/pop_music) and [rock](/source/rock_music)-oriented material, including both of the band's most successful singles, "Claire" and "Bad Time to Be Poor".<ref name="viewmag.com"/>

Vesely announced his departure from the Rheostatics on 8 September 2006.  He played his final show with the band on 30 March 2007 at [Massey Hall](/source/Massey_Hall).<ref name="chartattack.com"/>
