# Tim Thorogood

**Timothy "Tim" Rupert Thorogood** (born 15 May 1962) is an English administrator who served as [Chief Executive](/source/Chief_Executive_of_the_Falkland_Islands) of the [Falkland Islands](/source/Falkland_Islands) from 2008 until 2012.[1][2]

Thorogood was born in [Barbados](/source/Barbados) and spent time as a child in the Falklands, where his father worked for [Cable & Wireless](/source/Cable_%26_Wireless_plc). He attended [Wells Cathedral School](/source/Wells_Cathedral_School) and [Yeovil College](/source/Yeovil_College) in [Somerset](/source/Somerset), before going on to study at [Peterhouse, Cambridge](/source/Peterhouse,_Cambridge), where in 1983 he graduated with a degree in History.[3][4] He then went on to receive an MA in Education and an [MBA](/source/Master_of_Business_Administration) and PhD in Management from the [Open University](/source/Open_University).[1]

After University, Thorogood worked at a school in [Gosport](/source/Gosport), [Hampshire](/source/Hampshire), becoming the head of the school's history department. He then moved into local government working in [Hertfordshire](/source/Hertfordshire)'s [LEA](/source/Local_Education_Authority) and the London Borough of Hillingdon, before becoming Director of Strategic Services in [Three Rivers District Council](/source/Three_Rivers_District_Council) and later Director of Support Services in [Haringey Council](/source/Haringey_Council).[1] In March 2003 he was appointed chief executive of the [City and County of Swansea Council](/source/City_and_County_of_Swansea_Council). Following his resignation from Swansea Council, Thorogood became the head of the [Local Government Information Unit](/source/Local_Government_Information_Unit).,.[1]

In August 2007, the [Legislative Assembly of the Falkland Islands](/source/Legislative_Assembly_of_the_Falkland_Islands) selected Thorogood to be the [British Overseas Territory's](/source/British_overseas_territories) new chief executive.[5] He took up the position on 3 January 2008.[6] During his time as chief executive, the Falkland Islands Government increased investment in the search for [hydrocarbons](/source/Hydrocarbon) in the waters surrounding the islands. In 2011, Thorogood announced that he would be leaving the Falklands for family reasons. He left office in 2012 and was replaced by the [Director of Finance](/source/Director_of_Finance_of_the_Falkland_Islands), [Keith Padgett](/source/Keith_Padgett).[2]
