Stallworth played at [Washington State University](/source/Washington_State_University) for four seasons, from 1986 to 1989. As a sophomore, Stallworth emerged as a top receiver for the [Cougars](/source/Washington_State_Cougars_football) and also served as a [return specialist](/source/return_specialist), fielding 17 punts for 135 yards and taking 10 kickoffs for 142 yards. Stallworth broke out in his junior season, catching 55 passes for 1,031 yards and eight touchdowns.
