==Club career==
===Early years===
Leibold played for [VfB Stuttgart](/source/VfB_Stuttgart) until he was 12 years old. During his youth career, he played for [TSF Ditzingen](/source/TSF_Ditzingen) and [SGV Freiberg](/source/SGV_Freiberg) where he also played for the adult team in the [Oberliga Baden-Württemberg](/source/Oberliga_Baden-W%C3%BCrttemberg). In the 2012–13 season he played 33 matches and scored 5 goals. One year later he changed teams again and went back to [VfB Stuttgart II](/source/VfB_Stuttgart_II), where he played for the second team in the [3.Liga](/source/3._Liga).

On 20 July 2013, Leibold played his first match for [VfB Stuttgart II](/source/VfB_Stuttgart_II)<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://www.kick-s.de/vfb-stuttgart-ii-die-neuzugaenge-leibold-und-kirchhoff-im-portrait|title=Kick-S {{!}} Fußball. ===1. FC Nürnberg===
For the [2015–16 season](/source/2015%E2%80%9316_2._Bundesliga) Leibold moved to [1. FC Nürnberg](/source/1._FC_N%C3%BCrnberg)<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://www.fcn.de/news/artikel/der-club-verpflichtet-tim-leibold/|title=1. FC Nürnberg: Der Club verpflichtet Tim Leibold|website=fcn.de|language=de|access-date=8 November 2017}}</ref> in the [2.Bundesliga](/source/2.Bundesliga). On 6 May 2018 he scored as Nurnberg won 2–0 against [SV Sandhausen](/source/SV_Sandhausen) to clinch promotion to the [Bundesliga](/source/Bundesliga).<ref>{{cite news |last1=Pearson |first1=Matt |title=Nürnberg win promotion back to the Bundesliga {{!}} DW {{!}} 6 May 2018 |url=https://www.dw.com/en/n%C3%BCrnberg-win-promotion-back-to-the-bundesliga/a-43676254 |work=Deutsche Welle |date=6 May 2018 |language=de}}</ref>

===Hamburger SV===
For the [2019–20 season](/source/2019%E2%80%9320_2._Bundesliga) Leibold moved to [Hamburger SV](/source/Hamburger_SV), where he signed a four-year contract.<ref>{{cite web |title=Tim Leibold wechselt zum HSV |url=https://www.hsv.de/news/tim-leibold-wechselt-zum-hsv |website=HSV.de |language=de |date=29 June 2019}}</ref> Under head coach [Dieter Hecking](/source/Dieter_Hecking), Leibold was an undisputed starter and did not miss a single minute of the playing time during the season. In addition to scoring one goal, he made the most assists of the season with 16 assists.<ref>{{cite web |title=Scorer {{!}} 2. Bundesliga 2019/20 |url=https://www.kicker.de/2-bundesliga/scorer/2019-20 |website=kicker |access-date=20 May 2021 |language=de-DE}}</ref> In particular, he convinced with good performances in the first half of the season, after which he was rated by the German sports magazine ''[kicker](/source/Kicker_(sports_magazine))'' behind [Moritz Heyer](/source/Moritz_Heyer) of [VfL Osnabrück](/source/VfL_Osnabr%C3%BCck) as the second best defender in the league.<ref>{{cite web |title=Topspieler {{!}} Abwehr {{!}} 2. At the end of the season, HSV missed promotion to the Bundesliga in 4th place for a second season in a row. Leibold made it into the ''kicker'' team of the season.<ref>{{cite news |title=Die kicker-Elf der Zweitliga-Saison: Arminia dominiert - HSV auch dabei |url=https://www.kicker.de/die_kicker_elf_der_zweitliga_saison_arminia_dominiert_hsv_auch_dabei-778758/slideshow |work=kicker |date=11 July 2020 |language=de-DE}}</ref> The player himself took on responsibility with the words "We screwed it up ourselves, that's why we don't complain that we didn't get promoted" and named several late draws and defeats as a reason for the failure. According to Leibold, the team was "simply too immature in the end," the "knockouts" meant that by the end of the season "their heads were empty, their legs too heavy".<ref>{{cite news |last1=Tursi |first1=David Di |title=Leibold über Aufstiegskampf: "Die Köpfe leer, die Beine zu schwer" |url=https://www.fussballeck.com/2-bundesliga/hamburger-sv/leibold-ueber-aufstiegskampf-die-koepfe-leer-die-beine-zu-schwer/ |work=Fussballeck |date=29 July 2020 |language=de-DE}}</ref>

For the [2020–21 season](/source/2020%E2%80%9321_2._Bundesliga), Leibold was appointed [team captain](/source/Captain_(association_football)) by the new head coach [Daniel Thioune](/source/Daniel_Thioune), thereby succeeding [Aaron Hunt](/source/Aaron_Hunt).<ref>{{cite news |title=Leibold ist neuer Kapitän, Heuer Fernandes im Tor |url=https://www.kicker.de/leibold-ist-neuer-kapitaen-heuer-fernandes-im-tor-784501/artikel |work=kicker |date=13 September 2020 |language=de-DE}}</ref>

He would be relegated to [vice-captain](/source/vice-captain) by [Tim Walter](/source/Tim_Walter) after [Sebastian Schonlau](/source/Sebastian_Schonlau) would be appointed [team captain](/source/Captain_(sports)) right after leaving [SC Paderborn 07](/source/SC_Paderborn_07).<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.hsv.de/en/sebastian-schonlau-becomes-new-hsv-captain|title=Sebastian Schonlau becomes new HSV captain|website=HSV.de}}</ref>
