## Background

At the age of five, he began classical piano lessons. At the age of 11, he began playing jazz saxophone. By high school, he was playing as a jazz pianist sideman in Seattle, and was also the DJ in a local hiphop crew. He attended [NYU](/source/NYU) jazz performance program with concentration in Piano, where he jammed in his dorm room with [Bosco Mann](/source/Bosco_Mann). He studied with [Frank Kimbrough](/source/Frank_Kimbrough), [Arturo O'Farrill](/source/Arturo_O'Farrill) and [Don Friedman](/source/Don_Friedman). He has been a keyboard sideman with [Sam Sparro](/source/Sam_Sparro), [Lisa Shaw](/source/Lisa_Shaw_(musician)), [Kat DeLuna](/source/Kat_DeLuna), [Rahzel](/source/Rahzel), Orchestra Clave, [Miguel Migs](/source/Miguel_Migs) and [DJ Colette](/source/DJ_Colette).[12][8]

## Film

In 2025, he composed the original score for *[Pretty Thing](/source/Pretty_Thing_(film))*, an American erotic thriller directed by [Justin Kelly](/source/Justin_Kelly_(director)). Released in theaters on July 4, 2025, by Shout! Studios, the film stars [Alicia Silverstone](/source/Alicia_Silverstone) and [Karl Glusman](/source/Karl_Glusman) and follows a psychologically charged affair that spirals into obsession. Tim K’s music plays a pivotal role in shaping the film’s uneasy, seductive tone. The soundtrack—released by Obscura Editions on July 7, 2025—features an atmospheric blend of processed piano, modular synth, layered vocals, and tape manipulation, crafting a haunting soundscape that mirrors the film’s themes of desire, dominance, and emotional volatility.[13] Critics have widely praised the score for its emotional nuance and sonic elegance. *Variety* described it as “a wordless vocal element that carries an echo of posh 1960s European soundtracks.”[14] *Bloody Disgusting* highlighted its “twinkly harp and piano” as contributing to the film’s “hypnotic dreaminess,” likening the effect to that of a fairytale.[15] While *High On Films* critiqued the screenplay, it noted that “the heavy-lifting is left to Tim Kvasnosky’s music to crank up the unsettling mood.” Tim K’s score weaves fractured textures with brooding electronic undertones, heightening the film’s psychological intensity and offering a distinctively modern contribution to the erotic thriller genre.[16]

In 2018, Tim K scored *[JT Leroy](/source/JT_LeRoy_(film))* starring [Kristen Stewart](/source/Kristen_Stewart) and [Laura Dern](/source/Laura_Dern). The film is a biographical drama film that tells the story of [Laura Albert](/source/Laura_Albert), a woman who wrote and published a series of books under the pseudonym [JT LeRoy](/source/JT_LeRoy), a young transgender man. The score featured an avant garde small ensemble woodwind score. [17]

In 2016, Tim K scored *[King Cobra](/source/King_Cobra_(2016_film))*, starring [James Franco](/source/James_Franco), [Christian Slater](/source/Christian_Slater) and [Molly Ringwald](/source/Molly_Ringwald) about the death of porn producer Bryan Kocis. It premiered at the [Tribeca Film Festival](/source/Tribeca_Film_Festival).[18] The score was well received, the music praised as "effervescent electronic score" by *[Screen Daily](/source/Screen_Daily)*.[2]

In 2015, he composed score to *Buried Above Ground*, a documentary by director Ben Selkow.[19]

In 2014, Tim K composed the score, with [Jake Shears](/source/Jake_Shears) of the [Scissor Sisters](/source/Scissor_Sisters), to [Justin Kelly](/source/Justin_Kelly_(director)) directed, [Gus Van Sant](/source/Gus_Van_Sant) produced *[I Am Michael](/source/I_Am_Michael_(2015_film))* starring [James Franco](/source/James_Franco) and [Emma Roberts](/source/Emma_Roberts)[20] The film was selected for domestic premiere at the [Sundance Film Festival](/source/Sundance_Film_Festival) in 2015, and internationally at the [Berlin International Film Festival](/source/Berlin_International_Film_Festival).[21][22]
