He made his debut in the professional football squad of [FC Zwolle](/source/FC_Zwolle) in the 2004–05 season. He also played for [FC Eindhoven](/source/FC_Eindhoven) before joining RKC Waalwijk.
In 2007 Janssen was called up by [Jong Oranje](/source/Netherlands_national_under-21_football_team) coach [Foppe de Haan](/source/Foppe_de_Haan) to be part of his squad for the [2007 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship](/source/2007_UEFA_European_Under-21_Football_Championship) where they qualified for the [2008 Summer Olympics](/source/2008_Summer_Olympics).
