# Tillodon

***Tillodon*** is a genus of [tillodont](/source/Tillodontia) from [Eocene](/source/Eocene) [North America](/source/North_America).[1]

## Description

*Tillodon* had a large [skull](/source/Skull) and teeth, with a deep and thick jaw. The [molars](/source/Molar_(tooth)) are [brachydont](/source/Brachydont). The [premaxilla](/source/Premaxilla) of *Tillodon* makes up a majority of the skull's size.[2] *Tillodon* has been compared to [rodents](/source/Rodent) due to enlarged [incisor](/source/Incisor) teeth, which (alongside the related *[Trogosus](/source/Trogosus)*) has caused the genus to be erroneously considered the ancestors of the rodents .[3]

## Paleoecology

*Tillodon* is known from the lower [Bridger formation](/source/Bridger_Formation), and lived alongside many [artiodactyls](/source/Artiodactyl), such as [homacodonts](/source/Homacodontidae), [perissodactyls](/source/Perissodactyla) like the early [brontothere](/source/Brontothere) *[Telmatherium](/source/Telmatherium),* [dinocerates](/source/Dinocerata) like *[Uintatherium](/source/Uintatherium)* and early [carnivorans](/source/Carnivora) like *[Uintacyon](/source/Uintacyon).*[4]*Tillodon* most likely ate [tubers](/source/Tuber) and roots, much like other tillodonts.[5]
