The first rock pool was created in 1929 by film producer [Edward H. Griffith](/source/Edward_H._Griffith). Griffith built his property, which included a lighthouse, for use as a backdrop in feature films.<ref>{{cite web | url=http://luxatic.com/little-piece-hollywood-history-edward-h-griffiths-three-arch-bay-estate/| title=A Little Piece of Hollywood History – Edward H.
