# Thomas Usborne

**Thomas Usborne** (30 May 1840 – 7 June 1915)[1] was an English [Conservative Party](/source/Conservative_Party_(UK)) politician. He was born in [Limerick](/source/Limerick) and studied successively at [Harrow School](/source/Harrow_School) and at [Trinity College, Cambridge](/source/Trinity_College,_Cambridge), where he obtained an [MA](/source/Master_of_Arts_(Oxbridge_and_Dublin)) degree.[2]

He was elected to the [House of Commons](/source/House_of_Commons_of_the_United_Kingdom) as the [Member of Parliament](/source/Member_of_Parliament_(United_Kingdom)) (MP) for the [Chelmsford Division](/source/Chelmsford_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) of [Essex](/source/Essex) at an [unopposed by-election in 1892](/source/1892_Chelmsford_by-election), following the death of the sitting MP [William Beadel](/source/William_Beadel). Usborne was re-elected at the [general election in July 1892](/source/1892_United_Kingdom_general_election), and held the seat until he stood down at the [1900 general election](/source/1900_United_Kingdom_general_election).[3] His son, also called [Thomas](/source/Thomas_Usborne_(cricketer)), was a [first-class cricketer](/source/First-class_cricket).
