Stang](/source/Ole_A._Stang) and [Emma Heiberg](/source/Emma_Heiberg). ==Career==
In his early life, Stang took the [examen artium](/source/examen_artium) before working in forestry and timber business. He was a forest laborer for one year before taking [forester](/source/forester) education in Norway and the United States. He worked in Paris for Konow & Smith, then for one year at [Moss Cellulosefabrik](/source/Moss_Cellulosefabrik).<ref name=70y/><ref name=75y>{{cite news|title=Vannmannen Stang 75 – med en foss av ideer|date=27 November 1972|work=[Aftenposten](/source/Aftenposten)|page=12}}</ref>

The property Maarud in [Sør-Odal Municipality](/source/S%C3%B8r-Odal_Municipality) had been bought by his father in 1911.<ref>{{cite news|title=Potetene ble gull for Maarud|author=Aaserud, Kjell|date=17 November 1978|work=[Aftenposten](/source/Aftenposten)|page=11}}</ref> From 1923 Thomas Stang operated the farm and woodland at Maarud. Out of this business he developed an industrial company of the same name, [Maarud Bedrifter](/source/Maarud). After a stint as chief executive officer of [Union Co](/source/Union_Co) from 1939 to 1945, he returned to Maarud Bedrifter. Maarud was taken over by his son Ole Stang, Jr. in 1960.<ref name=obit/> Stang, who cited American industrialism as a major inspiration, still continued to venture into new business ideas.
