==Biography==
The grandson of [Major William Haymond](/source/Major_William_Haymond), Haymond was born in 1794 in [Fairmont, West Virginia](/source/Fairmont%2C_West_Virginia) to William Haymond Jr. and Cynthia Carroll. He attended private schools as a child and went on to attend the [College of William and Mary](/source/College_of_William_and_Mary). He served as a [private](/source/Private_(rank)) in the [War of 1812](/source/War_of_1812), studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1815, commencing practice in [Morgantown](/source/Morgantown%2C_West_Virginia). He was president of the county court of the newly formed [Marion County](/source/Marion_County%2C_West_Virginia) in 1842 before being elected as a [Whig](/source/Whig_Party_(United_States)) to the [United States House of Representatives](/source/United_States_House_of_Representatives) to fill a vacancy in 1849, serving until 1851.

Haymond was a [brigadier general](/source/History_of_Confederate_States_Army_Generals) in the [Virginia Militia](/source/Virginia_Militia) and, at the outbreak of the [Civil War](/source/American_Civil_War) in 1861, entered the [Confederate Army](/source/Confederate_States_Army) as a [colonel](/source/Colonel_(United_States)), serving throughout the war.

Haymond died in [Richmond, Virginia](/source/Richmond%2C_Virginia), on April 5, 1869, and was interred in Palatine Cemetery near Fairmont.
