'''Thomas Arkell''' (10 November 1823 - 2 February 1906) was a Canadian politician, farmer and grain [merchant](/source/merchant). He was elected to the [House of Commons of Canada](/source/House_of_Commons_of_Canada) in 1878 as a Member of the [Liberal-Conservative Party](/source/Liberal-Conservative_Party) to represent the [riding](/source/Electoral_district_(Canada)) of [Elgin East](/source/Elgin_East_(federal_electoral_district)). He was defeated in the election of [1882](/source/1882_Canadian_federal_election). Prior to his federal experience, he was elected mayor of [St. Thomas, Upper Canada](/source/St._Thomas%2C_Ontario) (later Ontario) between 1865 and 1871.

Arkell was born in [Gloucestershire](/source/Gloucestershire%2C_England), England, United Kingdom and immigrated to [Upper Canada](/source/Upper_Canada). He married Olive Eldridge and they had nine children.
