**Theodore Edward Dowling** (1837 – 1921), Archdeacon in Syria, was an [Anglican](/source/Anglican) [priest](/source/Priest) and [historian](/source/Historian) who studied the ancient eastern churches and wrote several scholarly works regarding the church history of [Armenia](/source/Armenia), [Antioch](/source/Antioch), the [Eastern Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem](/source/Eastern_Orthodox_Patriarchate_of_Jerusalem), and [Georgia](/source/Georgia_(country)).[1][2]
