# Thein Aung

**Thein Aung** (Burmese: *သိန်းအောင်*) is a [Myanmar](/source/Myanmar) politician who served as the [Chief Minister](/source/Chief_Minister) of [Ayeyarwady Region](/source/Ayeyarwady_Region), from 2011 to 2016. He is a former [brigadier-general](/source/Brigadier_General) in the [Myanmar Army](/source/Myanmar_Army) and was a member of the ruling military junta, the [State Peace and Development Council](/source/State_Peace_and_Development_Council).[1][2] He is also a former [Minister for Forestry](/source/Ministry_of_Environmental_Conservation_and_Forestry_(Burma)).[3]

A member of the [Union Solidarity and Development Party](/source/Union_Solidarity_and_Development_Party), he won an uncontested seat to represent [Ingapu Township](/source/Ingapu_Township) Constituency No. 1 as an [Ayeyarwady Region Hluttaw](/source/Ayeyarwady_Region_Hluttaw) representative in the [2010 Burmese general election](/source/2010_Burmese_general_election).[4]

## Personal life

Thein Aung's son [Zaw Hein](/source/Zaw_Hein) is a major-general in the [Burmese armed forces](/source/Tatmadaw) and the incumbent commander of the [Naypyidaw](/source/Naypyidaw) Command.[5][6]
