**The Tyrones** were an American [rock and roll](/source/Rock_and_roll) group, formed in [Philadelphia](/source/Philadelphia) in the 1950s. The group was run by Tyrone DeNittis and featured George Lesser. Their hit songs included "Blast Off" and "I'm Shook", and they appeared singing "Blast Off" in the film *[Let's Rock](/source/Let's_Rock)*. Sponsored in part by [Bill Haley](/source/Bill_Haley), the Tyrones recorded a number of Haley/[Comets](/source/Bill_Haley_%26_His_Comets)-written songs.[1] It is also believed that several Comets including [Frank Beecher](/source/Frank_Beecher) took part in the recording sessions, which were later "cleaned up" by [Johnny Grande](/source/Johnny_Grande) and [Billy Williamson](/source/Billy_Williamson_(guitarist)). DeNittis' brother, [Al Dean](/source/Al_Dean), briefly joined the Comets as [sax](/source/Saxophone) player in 1960. He may also have recorded with the Tyrones.

The band's music was used in the soundtracks of the films [The Iron Giant](/source/The_Iron_Giant) and *[Pink Flamingos](/source/Pink_Flamingos)*.
