# The Magnets

**The Magnets** are a [British](/source/United_Kingdom) [a cappella](/source/A_cappella) group, comprising Callum McIntosh, Michael Conway, Stevie Hutchinson, Ross Hunter, Eddie King and Mc Zani. Hobbit, Alfredo Austin III, Andres Cruz, Sam Pope and Aaron J Boykin also perform with the group. None of the original members are listed here. Nick Girard,[1] writes the majority of the arrangements and also performs within the group. The group formed while at [University College London](/source/University_College_London) together in a production of *[Guys and Dolls](/source/Guys_and_Dolls_(musical))*.

They signed to [EMI](/source/EMI) and released their debut [album](/source/Album), *Giving It All That*, in 2001. The following few years saw them tour with [Lisa Stansfield](/source/Lisa_Stansfield), [Michael Ball](/source/Michael_Ball_(singer)), [Tom Jones](/source/Tom_Jones_(singer)) and [Geri Halliwell](/source/Geri_Halliwell), with appearances on *[The Michael Parkinson Show](/source/The_Michael_Parkinson_Show)*, *[Blue Peter](/source/Blue_Peter)* and *[GMTV](/source/GMTV)*.[citation needed] In 2004, the group released *Another Place*, which featured nine original songs and two [covers](/source/Cover_version), including a rendition of [Stephen Stills](/source/Stephen_Stills)' "[For What It's Worth](/source/For_What_It's_Worth_(Buffalo_Springfield_song))". Their next album, *Gobsmacked*, featured songs such as "[Girls & Boys](/source/Girls_%26_Boys_(Blur_song))" originally by [Blur (band)](/source/Blur_(band)), and "[Sweet Dreams](/source/Sweet_Dreams_(Beyonc%C3%A9_Knowles_song))" by [Beyoncé](/source/Beyonc%C3%A9_Knowles), as well as live favourites such as "[Poker Face](/source/Poker_Face_(Lady_Gaga_song))" by [Lady Gaga](/source/Lady_Gaga) and "[Livin' on a Prayer](/source/Livin'_on_a_Prayer)" by [Bon Jovi](/source/Bon_Jovi).

The band has performed in five years of the last eight at the [Edinburgh Fringe Festival](/source/Edinburgh_Fringe_Festival). The Magnets undertook a European tour in November and December 2010.[citation needed]

In June 2011, they performed in Adelaide, Australia, as part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. Following this, they toured Melbourne, Sydney and Noosa.[citation needed]

On 12 January 2014, the group played their first US date in New York City.[2]

2025 - The band is currently enjoying a residency aboard the "[Valiant Lady](/source/Valiant_Lady_(ship))" Cruise ship ([Virgin Voyages](/source/Virgin_Voyages)).[citation needed]
