***The Innkeeper's Daughter*** is an 1817 stage [melodrama](/source/Melodrama) by the British writer [George Soane](/source/George_Soane). It was loosely based on the ballad *Mary the Maid of the Inn* by [Robert Southey](/source/Robert_Southey).[1] It premiered at the [Theatre Royal, Drury Lane](/source/Theatre_Royal%2C_Drury_Lane) in [London](/source/London) on 7 April 1817.[2] The original cast included [Henry Gattie](/source/Henry_Gattie) as Frankland, [James William Wallack](/source/James_William_Wallack) as Richard, [Thomas Cooke](/source/Thomas_Cooke_(actor)) as Hans Ketzler, [Frances Maria Kelly](/source/Frances_Maria_Kelly) as Mary and [Sarah Harlowe](/source/Sarah_Harlowe) as Marian. The music was composed by [Thomas Simpson Cooke](/source/Thomas_Simpson_Cooke). Its Irish debut was at the [Crow Street Theatre](/source/Crow_Street_Theatre) in [Dublin](/source/Dublin) on 19 January 1818.[3]
