# The First Milestone

***The First Milestone*** is an album by tenor saxophonist [Eric Alexander](/source/Eric_Alexander_(jazz_saxophonist)). It was recorded in 1999 and released by [Milestone Records](/source/Milestone_Records).

## Recording and music

The album was recorded in November 1999.[1] The quintet contains tenor saxophonist [Eric Alexander](/source/Eric_Alexander_(jazz_saxophonist)), guitarist [Pat Martino](/source/Pat_Martino), pianist [Harold Mabern](/source/Harold_Mabern), bassist [Peter Washington](/source/Peter_Washington), and drummer [Joe Farnsworth](/source/Joe_Farnsworth).[1] Several of the compositions are Alexander originals.[2]

## Release and reception

*The First Milestone* was released by [Milestone Records](/source/Milestone_Records).[1] The [AllMusic](/source/AllMusic) reviewer described it as "an excellent mainstream session".[2] *[The Penguin Guide to Jazz](/source/The_Penguin_Guide_to_Jazz)* commented that, on uptempo tracks, "There's a feel of much power held in gracious reserve, rather than being unwillingly checked."[1]
