***The Essential Red Collection*** is a greatest hits album by [Sammy Hagar](/source/Sammy_Hagar). It includes some of his early works, from "[Bad Motor Scooter](/source/Bad_Motor_Scooter)" with [Montrose](/source/Montrose_(band)), released demos, film soundtrack songs to more recent material. It was released in 2004 on [Hip-O Records](/source/Hip-O_Records). It excludes songs from his time with [Van Halen](/source/Van_Halen).

## Song information

- "Thinking of You" was retooled for Hagar's first album, *[Nine on a Ten Scale](/source/Nine_on_a_Ten_Scale)*, and included with the title, "Rock 'n' Roll Romeo".
- A different version of "Heavy Metal" was included on the *[Heavy Metal](/source/Heavy_Metal_(film)#Soundtrack)* soundtrack. The version included here, however, was the re-recorded version for his *[Standing Hampton](/source/Standing_Hampton)* album.
- "[Winner Takes It All](/source/Winner_Takes_It_All_(Sammy_Hagar_song))", "Give to Live", and "Eagles Fly" feature [Edward Van Halen](/source/Edward_Van_Halen) on bass guitar.
