# The Choir Practice

**The Choir Practice** is a [Canadian](/source/Canadians) [indie pop](/source/Indie_pop) band from [Vancouver](/source/Vancouver) formed in 2005.

## History

The Choir Practice formed in [Vancouver](/source/Vancouver), [British Columbia](/source/British_Columbia), [Canada](/source/Canada) in the spring of 2005.[1] A [musical collective](/source/Musical_collective) consisting of a rotating cast of "indie rock royalty"[2] Coco Culbertson (The Gay), [Larissa Loyva](/source/Larissa_Loyva) ([P:ano](/source/P:ano)), [Ida Nilsen](/source/Ida_Nilsen) (Great Aunt Ida), Shane Turner (Love and Mathematics), Jenn Chycoski, [Chris Kelly](/source/Chris_Kelly_(composer)), Ska-T, Karin Bubas, Shira Blustein ([Blood Meridian](/source/Blood_Meridian_(band))), Sidney Vermont ([Hello, Blue Roses](/source/Hello,_Blue_Roses)), Naomi Mepham, Marcy Emery, [Kurt Dahle](/source/Kurt_Dahle) ([Limblifter](/source/Limblifter), [The New Pornographers](/source/The_New_Pornographers)), Olivia Fetherstonhaugh and Kristen Halliday, the band performs pop songs in a [choral](/source/Choir) style.[3] The band was originally formed "as an excuse to drink wine and sing with friends",[4] according to Turner.

The band released their self-titled debut album on [Mint Records](/source/Mint_Records)[5] on 15 May 2007.[6] They attracted significant media notice in April when [Jarvis Cocker](/source/Jarvis_Cocker) announced that he had selected the band to open his Vancouver concert 1 May 2007.[4] The band received critical acclaim from *[Exclaim!](/source/Exclaim!)* for their debut.[7] They have been featured on [CBC Radio](/source/CBC_Radio).[8]
