# The !!!! Beat

***The !!!! Beat*** is an American [television program](/source/Television_program) that aired in [syndication](/source/Broadcast_syndication) for 26 episodes in 1966. It was hosted by the [Nashville, Tennessee](/source/Nashville,_Tennessee) [WLAC](/source/WLAC) based [disc jockey](/source/Disc_jockey) [Bill "Hoss" Allen](/source/Bill_%22Hoss%22_Allen), and featured a [house band](/source/House_band) led by [Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown](/source/Clarence_%22Gatemouth%22_Brown) which included [David "Fathead" Newman](/source/David_%22Fathead%22_Newman).[1] The show was recorded in color[1] at [WFAA](/source/WFAA), the [ABC](/source/American_Broadcasting_Company) affiliate in [Dallas](/source/Dallas), which had color facilities, and recorded and syndicated episodes of the program.[2] At that time, none of the Nashville stations had color capability.[3][4]

Z. Hill](/source/Z._Z._Hill), [Lou Rawls](/source/Lou_Rawls), [Bobby Hebb](/source/Bobby_Hebb), [Willie Mitchell](/source/Willie_Mitchell_(musician)), [Don Bryant](/source/Don_Bryant_(songwriter)), [The Ovations](/source/The_Ovations), [The Bar-Kays](/source/The_Bar-Kays), [Percy Sledge](/source/Percy_Sledge), [Garnet Mimms](/source/Garnet_Mimms), and [Sam & Dave](/source/Sam_%26_Dave) all appeared.[3] Some of the artists would also chart well into the 1970s.

## DVD release

The show was rumored to have been lost but to have been discovered by [Willie Nelson](/source/Willie_Nelson) in his own collection.[3] In 2005, [Bear Family Records](/source/Bear_Family_Records) released all 26 episodes of the show (on six discs) on Region 1 [DVD](/source/DVD) in the United States.[6]
