**Thaddeus Robert Rudolph Mann** CBE FRS[1] (4 December 1908 – 27 November 1993) was a [biochemist](/source/Biochemist) who made significant contributions to the field of [reproductive biology](/source/Reproductive_biology). He was born in [Lwow](/source/Lviv), [Austria-Hungary](/source/Austria-Hungary) (now [Ukraine](/source/Ukraine)) and was educated at [Lwow University](/source/Lviv_University). He studied medicine at the [Johannes Casimirus University](/source/Lviv_University) in Lwow, obtaining the degrees of Physician in 1932 and Doctor of Medicine in 1934.

He continued his education at the [Molteno Institute](/source/Molteno_Institute_for_Research_in_Parasitology), [Cambridge](/source/Cambridge) on a [Rockefeller Fellowship](/source/Rockefeller_University), 1935–1937, and remained at the [University of Cambridge](/source/University_of_Cambridge) during the rest of his career. He died in Cambridge.[2]

Mann began his career in the laboratory of [Professor Jacob Karol Parnas](/source/Jakub_Karol_Parnas) (1884–1949) in Poland, where he was involved in research on [glycolysis](/source/Glycolysis) and muscle energy metabolism.[3]

He was elected a [Fellow of the Royal Society](/source/Fellow_of_the_Royal_Society) in 1951.[4]

He was married to [Cecilia Lutwak-Mann](/source/Cecilia_Lutwak-Mann), an endocrinologist and physiologist.[2]

Thaddeus Mann published more than 250 papers, and several books.[2]
