# Tevin Thomas

**Tevin Thomas** is a U.S. musician, composer, keyboard artist, producer and educator.

He graduated with an Educational Technology Masters Degree from the [New York Institute of Technology](/source/New_York_Institute_of_Technology), he has been teaching music at PS.811x [Bronx, New York](/source/Bronx,_New_York), where he performs with autistic students.[1]

Tevin was born in [Kansas City, Missouri](/source/Kansas_City,_Missouri) and also grew up in [Tulsa, Oklahoma](/source/Tulsa,_Oklahoma). Thanks to his music teacher Richard Wilson, he had his first gig at the age 14, playing sax and keyboards in a jazz band at the Tulsa [YMCA](/source/YMCA) with Robert and [Charlie Wilson](/source/Charlie_Wilson_(singer)), Ken Collier and Troy Hanson. Since then, he has performed all over the US and abroad working with 802, Aisha Wonder, [Ashford & Simpson](/source/Ashford_%26_Simpson), [Babyface](/source/Babyface_(musician)), [Bloodstone](/source/Bloodstone_(band)), [Bobbi Humphrey](/source/Bobbi_Humphrey), [Craig Harris](/source/Craig_Harris), [Dionne Warwick](/source/Dionne_Warwick), [Gary Bartz](/source/Gary_Bartz), [Gary Byrd](/source/Gary_Byrd), Impact Repertory Theatre, [Jay-Z](/source/Jay-Z), [Jeff Redd](/source/Jeff_Redd), [Mary J. Blige](/source/Mary_J._Blige), [Nile Rodgers](/source/Nile_Rodgers), [Reverend Run](/source/Reverend_Run) and [Roberta Flack](/source/Roberta_Flack). He is one of the very few pianists having performed with the godfather of avant-garde jazz [Ornette Coleman](/source/Ornette_Coleman).

Thomas co-wrote the song "[Raise It Up](/source/Raise_It_Up_(August_Rush_song))" with [Jamal Joseph](/source/Jamal_Joseph), Charles Mack and IMPACT Repertory Theatre, who performed in the 2007 film *[August Rush](/source/August_Rush)*. "Raise It Up" was nominated in [2008 Oscars](/source/80th_Academy_Awards) in the [Best Original Song](/source/Academy_Award_for_Best_Original_Score) category.[2] Tevin performed with Impact and [Jamia Simone Nash](/source/Jamia_Simone_Nash) at the 80th [Academy Awards](/source/Academy_Awards). In 2009 the August Rush soundtrack was nominated for [Grammy Award](/source/Grammy_Award).

Tevin moved to [Strasbourg](/source/Strasbourg), France in 2014. Tevin toured with [The Sun Ra Arkestra](/source/The_Sun_Ra_Arkestra) from 2018 to 2022.
