'''Teodor Ilyich Oizerman''' ({{langx|ru|Теодор Ильич Ойзерман}}; {{OldStyleDate|14 May|1914|1 May}} &ndash; 25 March 2017) was a Soviet and Russian philosopher and academician.<ref>http://dic.academic.ru/dic.nsf/enc_biography/94770/Ойзерман, ''passim''</ref>

==Biography==

Oizerman was born in [Petrovirivka](/source/Petrovirivka) into a [Jewish](/source/History_of_the_Jews_in_Russia) family. His parents were teachers. During [World War II](/source/World_War_II), he served in the [Red Army](/source/Red_Army). Oizerman was a member of the [Russian Academy of Sciences](/source/Russian_Academy_of_Sciences) from 1981 until his death. He received an [honorary doctorate](/source/Honorary_degree) from the [University of Jena](/source/University_of_Jena) in 1979 and the [USSR State Prize](/source/USSR_State_Prize) in 1983. In 1979, Oizerman was awarded the [Plekhanov](/source/Georgi_Plekhanov) prize for the monograph ''The Main Trends in Philosophy''.<ref>[http://www.ras.ru/about/awards/awdlist.aspx?awdid=143 The Plekhanov prize] {{in lang|ru}} <br /> The first edition of this book was out in 1971. The second edition published in 1984 was translated into English in 1988.</ref> He also served on the [Anti-Zionist Committee of the Soviet Public](/source/Anti-Zionist_Committee_of_the_Soviet_Public).<ref>{{ISBN|3-7186-5740-6}} ''Russian Antisemitism, Pamyat and the Demonology of Zionism (Studies in Antisemitism)'' by William Korey</ref>

Following the 1991 break-up of the Soviet Union, Oizerman moved towards [social democratic](/source/social_democratic) and anti-[Leninist](/source/Leninism) positions. He viewed [Vladimir Lenin](/source/Vladimir_Lenin)'s interpretation and application of the ideas of [Karl Marx](/source/Karl_Marx) and [Friedrich Engels](/source/Friedrich_Engels) in the [Russian Revolution](/source/Russian_Revolution) as incorrect, and believed Lenin's view led towards [oligarchy](/source/oligarchy) rather than the victorious establishment of the [dictatorship of the proletariat](/source/dictatorship_of_the_proletariat).<ref>Luther, Sara Fletcher, John J.
