***Tenthredo notha***, a **common sawfly**, is a species belonging to the family [Tenthredinidae](/source/Tenthredinidae) subfamily [Tenthrediniinae](/source/Tenthrediniinae).[1]

## Distribution

This species is mainly present in [British Isles](/source/British_Isles), [Bulgaria](/source/Bulgaria), [Croatia](/source/Croatia), [Czech Republic](/source/Czech_Republic), [France](/source/France), [Germany](/source/Germany), [Italy](/source/Italy), [Austria](/source/Austria), [Belgium](/source/Belgium), [Slovakia](/source/Slovakia), [Sweden](/source/Sweden), [Switzerland](/source/Switzerland), [Poland](/source/Poland), [Russia](/source/Russia), [Ukraine](/source/Ukraine) and [Greece](/source/Greece).[2]

## Description

The adults grow up to 8–11 millimetres (0.31–0.43 in) long.[3] These quite large sawflies have a lemon-yellow abdomen with black markings. This species is very similar to *[Tenthredo arcuata](/source/Tenthredo_arcuata)* and *[Tenthredo brevicornis](/source/Tenthredo_brevicornis)*.[4]

## Biology

They can be encountered from June through September feeding on small insects and on nectar and pollen of flowers (especially on [Apiaceae](/source/Apiaceae) species).[3]

The larvae mainly feed on clover (*[Trifolium repens](/source/Trifolium_repens)*), they overwinter as eonymph, pupating and emerging the following Spring.[3]
