Tenelle grew up in [Carson, California](/source/Carson%2C_California) where she was originally a [softball](/source/softball) player. At the age of 12, she started taking singing lessons with [vocal coach](/source/vocal_coach) Tim Carter, best known for his work with artists such as [Beyoncé](/source/Beyonc%C3%A9) and [Willow Smith](/source/Willow_Smith).
