The '''Teeling Column''' was one of four armed units created by [Seán Cronin](/source/Se%C3%A1n_Cronin) for the [Border Campaign](/source/Border_Campaign_(IRA)) in the west of [Ulster](/source/Ulster).

On 30 December 1956, the Column's inaugural operation involved an attack on the [Royal Ulster Constabulary](/source/Royal_Ulster_Constabulary) barracks in [Derrylin](/source/Derrylin), [County Fermanagh](/source/County_Fermanagh). The object was to obtain the surrender of the garrison. The unit failed to achieve this and, fearing being outflanked by reinforcements, withdrew across [the border](/source/Republic_of_Ireland-United_Kingdom_border) to [County Cavan](/source/County_Cavan).

The next day, the column's commander Noel Kavanagh and six others (including [Ruairí Ó Brádaigh](/source/Ruair%C3%AD_%C3%93_Br%C3%A1daigh)) were arrested in Cavan by [Garda Síochána](/source/Garda_S%C3%ADoch%C3%A1na) officers. All members of the Column were eventually imprisoned.

Ó Brádaigh was gaoled for six months in [Mountjoy Prison](/source/Mountjoy_Prison), and the others were sent to [Bridewell Prison](/source/Bridewell_Prison).
