# Ted Rice

**Ted R. Rice** was an American [jockey](/source/Jockey). He rode the winning horse [Paul Jones](/source/Paul_Jones_(horse)) in the [1920 Kentucky Derby](/source/1920_Kentucky_Derby). Rice received a $5,000 bonus from owner [Capt. Ral Parr](/source/Ral_Parr) for winning the race.[1]

Ted Rice died after a fall from a horse on October 6, 1923.[2] To add to the tragedy, his mother was in the [stands](/source/Grandstand).[3]
