# Ted Beckett

**Ted Beckett** (February 15, 1907 – June 1978) was an American [football](/source/American_football) player.[1][2] He played college football at [University of California, Berkeley](/source/University_of_California,_Berkeley) and was a consensus selection at the [guard](/source/Guard_(American_football)) position on the [1930 College Football All-America Team](/source/1930_College_Football_All-America_Team).[3][4]

After graduation Beckett served on the Cal coaching staff for the [1931 season](/source/1931_California_Golden_Bears_football_team).[5] He became head football coach as [Santa Barbara State College](/source/University_of_California,_Santa_Barbara) for the 1932 season, after which he retired from football.[5]

Beckett went into the insurance business in 1933 and remained in that field until 1942.[5] During [World War II](/source/World_War_II) he became a foreman at a shipyard.[5]

Following the war, Beckett moved to [Orinda, California](/source/Orinda,_California) with his wife Kathryn and raised a family, moving occupationally into the field homebuilding and real estate sales.[5]

He died in 1978 at [Reno, Nevada](/source/Reno,_Nevada), at the age of 71.[6]
