# Taylor Ortlepp

**Taylor Jae Ortlepp** (born 22 June 1997) is an Australian professional [basketball](/source/Basketball) player and [Australian rules footballer](/source/Australian_rules_football). She has played for the [Adelaide Lightning](/source/Adelaide_Lightning) and [Melbourne Boomers](/source/Geelong_United_(WNBL)) in the [Women's National Basketball League](/source/Women's_National_Basketball_League) (WNBL) and in the [AFL Women's](/source/AFL_Women's) (AFLW).

## Early life

Ortlepp grew up playing basketball in country [South Australia](/source/South_Australia) before moving to [Adelaide](/source/Adelaide) as an U16, where she played the rest of her junior career with Norwood Basketball Club[1] and attended [Saint Ignatius' College](/source/Saint_Ignatius'_College,_Adelaide).[2]

## Basketball career

### Early years

Ortlepp played three seasons in the South Australian [Premier League](/source/NBL1_Central) for the Norwood Flames between 2014 and 2016. She also spent the [2014–15 WNBL season](/source/2014%E2%80%9315_WNBL_season) with the [Adelaide Lightning](/source/Adelaide_Lightning).[3]

### College

Between 2016 and 2020, Ortlepp played [college basketball](/source/College_basketball) in the United States for the [Boston College Eagles](/source/Boston_College_Eagles_women's_basketball).[3][4]

### Professional

In 2020, Ortlepp played for the Adelaide Lightning in the [WNBL Hub season](/source/2020_WNBL_season).[5] After a season with the [North Adelaide Rockets](/source/North_Adelaide_Rockets) in the [NBL1 Central](/source/NBL1_Central), she returned to the Lightning for the [2021–22 WNBL season](/source/2021%E2%80%9322_WNBL_season). She then joined the [Rockingham Flames](/source/Rockingham_Flames) for the [2022 NBL1 West season](/source/2022_NBL1_West_season).[3]

On 28 January 2023, Ortlepp signed with the [Melbourne Boomers](/source/Melbourne_Boomers) for the rest of the [2022–23 WNBL season](/source/2022%E2%80%9323_WNBL_season).[6] She then played for the [Melbourne Tigers](/source/Melbourne_Tigers_(NBL1_South)) in the [2023 NBL1 South season](/source/2023_NBL1_season).[3]

### National team

Ortlepp first represented Australia in 2013 at the [FIBA Oceania Under-16 Championship](/source/FIBA_Oceania_Under-16_Championship_for_Women) in [Melbourne](/source/Melbourne). She would then go on to represent Australia at the [2014 FIBA Under-17 World Championship](/source/2014_FIBA_Under-17_World_Championship_for_Women) in the [Czech Republic](/source/Czech_Republic),[7] where they finished in fifth place, with a 6–1 record.

## Football career

Ortlepp signed for in the AFLW ahead of [2022 season 7](/source/2022_AFL_Women's_season_7).[8] In three seasons on the list, she played 13 games for the club.[9] She was delisted at the end of the [2024 season](/source/2024_AFL_Women's_season).[9]

## Personal life

Ortlepp is the daughter of Julie and Grant, and has a brother, Cameron.[2]
