In [operating systems](/source/Operating_system), a **task manager** is a [system monitor](/source/System_monitor) [program](/source/Computer_program) used to provide information about the [processes](/source/Process_(computing)) and [applications](/source/Application_software) running on a [computer](/source/Computer), as well as the general status of the computer. Some implementations can also be used to terminate processes and applications, as well as change the processes' [scheduling priority](/source/Scheduling_priority). In some environments, users can access a task manager with the [Control-Alt-Delete](/source/Control-Alt-Delete) [keyboard shortcut](/source/Keyboard_shortcut).

Task managers can display running services. ([processes](/source/Process_(computing))) as well as those that were stopped. They can display information about the services, including their [process identifier](/source/Process_identifier) and [group identifier](/source/Group_identifier).
